New Delhi, Mar 31: Congress party said on Friday March 31 that people refusing to sing 'Vande Mataram' cannot be held guilty till its singing is made mandatory by law.

Speaking on this issue, veteran Congress leader, Oscar Fernandes, said that the issue of singing this song has a hitch. "Vande Mataram is our national song. Just because someone refuses to sing this song cannot be enough to hold him guilty. Till a law making it compulsory for the citizens to sing the national song is passed, those not singing it cannot be treated as guilty," he asserted.

Another Congress leader, P L Punia, who has come in support of Fernandes on this issue, has also opined that forcing people to sing the national song is not right.

"I do not wish to analyze any of the religions. But I believe that there are no differences between the slogans, 'Hindustan Zindabad' and 'Vande Mataram'. Both the slogans pertain to the nation and forcing a person to sing 'Vande Mataram' in my opinion, is wrong," he stated.

After some councillors of Meerut municipal council refused to sing 'Vande Mataram', they were barred from participating in the council meetings on Thursday March 30.

Even though, I may not like the capability of Mr. Oscar, here I agree with him.

He has agreed with three points:

b. Making some one to force national song Vande Mataram, is not right and cannot be enough to hold him guilty.

Request to BJP law makers including all opposition, making it compulsory
as LAW to sing Vande Mataram which our national song. Problem solved. Why BJP is prolonging it to make as LAW, which is a question mark.

Vande Matharam is such a beautiful song most people like to sing by their own will. However, signing or not, it is one's choice and no one has right to force upon another. It is called freedom of speech -- a constitutional right to speak or not to speak.

Dear Law makers,
Please make it compulsory that all Indians are liable to sing Vande Matharam.
No is exempted from this.
Congress is already provided scope for many issues,today stone felters in J&k are grown to this height is only due to lack of nationalism polices by earlier govts.

BJP won UP election with cow as the main plank so much so that even secular hindus voted for it. In other states where cow was not a issue it failed.

One of the trick is to polarize voters and rake issues and poison minds in order to acquire and stay in power. If I were a politician I would have done the same too after all business is business.

I feel all Muslims say Bharat Mata ki jai as well as sing Vande Mataram too. Some scholars may issue a edict as per their understanding but how many really follow it is important. It is when a fringe group forces somebody this problem happens.

Most of the time Hindus settled abroad in various countries have fought for their rights and won too. Restaurants have been dragged to court for mistakenly serving beef. Others have demanded for open air cremation instead of electric crematorium and granted too. That does not make them less patriotic in their respective countries.

Since for millions of us Hindus living in Islamic countries nobody forces to eat beef we cannot ask Muslims to sing Vande Mataram to prove their patriotism.

Vande Mataram is just a poem and was used as a tool to unite Indians against British rule. Now that British have long left what is the point of singing this song?

And how can someone singing a song be defined as a patriot. In my opinion a patriot is a one who follows the rule of the land. Lot of other people can be utterly corrupt, evade taxes, spit on the road, ill treat their parents but if they sing Vande Mataram will they become patriots. If that is the case then we must teach our kids to sing good religious songs and not lead a good life as that would be sufficient for all of us to go to swarg or heaven.

Why only Vande Mataram, forcing people not to eat meat i.e, beef, chicken, pork and mutton is not acceptable. It is the right of every person to choose his way of living and govt has no right to interfere in his personal life. In this country if a PM wipes his face with Indian flag during yoga it is acceptable but if a common man does it is not acceptable. If a PM visit Pakistan without knowledge while our soldiers are being killed at the border is acceptable it is not acceptable if a soldier raises his voice against the quality of food they are given. In short these political parties especially congress, bjp etc have become hypocrites.

Vande Mataram is a patriotic song and if some one is showing objection that means there is a huge agenda inside. Or else why the hell they can't sing it. It's not the queston that they are just objecting to sing it.... it's an indication that they are real threat to our nation. similarly they are showing same objection to say "bharath Mata ki jai" ... what's wrong in saying it if you not a anti national element. Problem is that all these creatures are contributing to all the anti national issues we are facing. Biggest threat to the nation is a party Congress which is supporting such motions. earlier they were indirectly and now directly. Hope the central govt and next state government will clean up all these anti national elements as a part of the swach bharath motion and Congress Mukth Bharath.

Agreed that Vande Mataram is a patriotic song, but patriotism CANNOT BE MANDATED. A person should'nt be told by the government what he can or cannot sing. Government should stay out of what people eat, sing, whom they love, who they can go out with. These are personal liberties that god gave us without government intereference. It is none of the governments business. This is another wedge issue politicians are bringing out to divide people for political gains. Government should stick to it's role and not interfere in people's personal choices.
