Pak prosecutor asks Christians to convert to avoid conviction

Islamabad, Mar 30 (PTI): A senior Pakistani prosecutor has been accused of blackmailing dozens of Christians after he allegedly asked them to embrace Islam to avoid conviction in the killing of two Muslims in mass violence two years ago.

Violence erupted in Youhanabad Christian neighbourhood of Lahore on March 15, 2015 after suicide blasts targeted Sunday mass in two churches. Some 42 Christians were charged with lynching two Muslim men, suspecting them of involvement in the blasts.

Joseph Franci, a rights activist who is legally assisting the accused, said that Deputy District Public Prosecutor (DDPP) Syed Anees Shah told the accused that they can be acquitted if they renounce Christianity, The Express Tribune reported.

"He told them if they embrace Islam, he can guarantee them their acquittal in this case," Joseph said. The activist said the accused remained silent and were dumbfounded.

Naseeb Anjum Advocate said that the public prosecutor’s offer was not new and added that he had also given this offer to some of the accused about six months back but they rejected it.

"They believe in independence of the court, but why is the DDPP blackmailing them?" He asked. "The government should get rid of such elements that bring bad name to the state by such acts."

Shah, when contacted, said that he did not ask them to embrace Islam, but conceded that he offered them a choice when he was told that the accused have a video recording of what he said, the report said.

The minorities in Pakistan in the past have been accusing Muslim clerics of forcibly converting them to Islam but it is for the first time that a state functionary used conversion as an incentive to dodge legal proceeding.

RSS would applaud the senior Pakistani prosecutor. There is no difference between Pakistan and the RSS goal of a Hindu state. The only difference is Islam is the state religion in Pakistan and Hinduism would be the state religion in India.

How long will it take South Asians to understand the concept of the "rule of law". The Oxford English Dictionary has defined "rule of law" this way:

The authority and influence of law in society, esp. when viewed as a constraint on individual and institutional behaviour; (hence) the principle whereby all members of a society (including those in government) are considered equally subject to publicly disclosed legal codes and processes.

Rule of law implies that every citizen is subject to the law. It stands in contrast to the idea that the ruler is above the law, for example by divine right.

Pakistan has not become like India now or recently. Pakistan had been breeding fanaticism and intolerance since its inception, it was intensified under Zial-ul-Haq by bringing about the notorious blasphemy law. Even today India is most tolerant compared to our neighbouring countries and the Middle East.

Now will comes to know the difference between live in India and other countries.
Here in india all treated equal...with some or what small incidents occur.
Everybody knows very well what's happened in lahore during easter holiday.

Still here people blaming majority people now and then claiming for there rights.

It's called freedom given to others which cannot see in other countries having so many religions/castes living all together at one place...inspite of so many differences.

It's what our religion preaches respect all religions from childhood which is absent in others...main reason of disturbances.

Christians converting to Islam is not a big issue. Both religions trust and pray to one God and consider anything human made or which has death is not God. Worship of animal or money also is a sin in both religions.
