Karkala: Woman loses jewellery, files cheating case against friend

Karkala, Mar 30: A woman has filed a complaint at the rural police station here, alleging that her friend, who borrowed her jewellery by misusing her trust, cheated her by pledging them at a cooperative society and raising a loan.

Sumana S Rao residing at Gokul compound in Hirgana village here happens to be the complainant. She has accused her friend, Mallika Shetty, wife of Sadashiva Shetty from Jodurasthe in Kukkundoor of cheating her.

Sumana says that Mallika had requested her to lend jewellery to her in 2012 to be able to attend a marriage function. Mallika promised to return the ornaments within four days. The value of the ornaments then was Rs 3.5 lac. But Mallika did not return the ornaments in spite of repeated reminders. On getting to know in October 2014 that her ornaments had been put up for auction by the cooperative society, Sumana questioned Mallika but Mallika remained non-cooperative, Sumana has said in her complaint.

The police are now investigating the case.
