Mangaluru: Milestones set to host Autism awareness event with a dollop of fun

Mangaluru, Mar 30: With a view to create awareness about Autism among the public and for the welfare of Autism-affected children, Milestones will organise 'World Autism Awareness Day' on Sunday, April 2 from 11 am to 8 pm at Forum Fiza Mall here, informed Raina Rodrigues, director of Milestones Autism and Early Learning Centre.

Addressing a press meet here on Thursday March 30, she said, "As part of the event, treasure hunt, scavenger hunt and a cultural programme will be held. Doctors and eminent personalities will be part of the event. Gift hampers will be distributed to all children."

The awareness campaign will be held on the theme 'Rock, spin and flap', with a fun fair and fund raiser events for the cause. As a part of event fete, treasure hunt, scavenger hunt and gift hampers will also be provided for the children. Food, snacks, clothes, accessories will be available at the fete.

Proceedings of this event will be used for the development of the centre and for the children with Autism disability, Raina said.

During the day-long event, cultural programme will be held where budding artistes from Mangaluru will showcase their talent, which will include a musical concert by Jacqueline and Band Charitra. Acoustic Rush will also weave magic into music at the singing concert. A lineup of dance performances, will also entertain. Besides, the prizes for the games and the raffle draw will be distributed at the cultural programme".

Spot games for children will be held at regular intervals at the fair. The scavenger hunt and treasure hunt though, will require a pre-registration with a fee of Rs 500 each. The winning teams of both the hunts stand to win a cash prize of Rs 10,000 each.

Scavenger hunt will be held at 10.30 am. Each team can have only three participants at most.

Treasure hunt will be held at 3 pm. A team can have a minimum of two and a maximum of five participants.

Besides helping with fundraising, the stalls, activities and games are all being set up to entertain people from all walks of life. Milestones welcomes interested individuals to be a part of the campaign and showcase their business or talents by booking a stall or counter at the mall for Rs 2,500.
