Germany's Zverev beats Wawrinka in Miami Open

Miami (Florida), Mar 29 (IANS): German tennis player Alexander Zverev defeated Swiss player Stan Wawrinka 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 in the fourth round of the Miami Open.

The 20th-ranked German, thus defeated the world's third-ranked Wawrinka, who had little possibility of overcoming Zverev, who has already won the Montpelier tournament in France this year, reports Efe.

After a first set in which Wawrinka gave a glimpse of why he is the first seed of this tournament, the German passed the Swiss with two strong and clear sets on Tuesday.

Zverev won against the Swiss despite having had a tough third-round match with American John Isner on Monday, against whom he needed to go into three tie-breakers, 6-7(5), 7-6(7) and 7-6(5).

The German will now take on the winner of the match between 12th-seeded Australian Nick Kyrgios and eighth-seeded Belgian David Goffin in the semifinals.
