Mangaluru: Kudla Express train - MP Nalin meets railway minister, gets assurance

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Mar 29: Union railway minister, Suresh Prabhu, gave an assurance to Dakshina Kannada member of parliament, Nalin Kumar Kateel, to start operations of much-awaited Kudla Express train between Bengaluru and the city via Shravanabelagola and Hassan route within a month.

The promise came on Tuesday March 28 when the MP met the railway minister at New Delhi on Tuesday March 28.

Kateel, on this occasion, urged the minister to see that this train is operated from Central station here instead of Junction station as proposed by Palakkad division of railways. He also handed over a memorandum to the minister seeking to install additional platform at Central railway station here, and to complete track doubling work between Netravati Cabin to Central railway station at the earliest.

Kudla Express was to become a reality on March 26. But only the train between Bengaluru and Hassan was flagged off on that day and the department had said that they could not run this train for want of rakes.

The Palakkad division of the railways has been claiming that there is shortage of platforms in Central railway station for accommodating this train, which was announced when D V Sadananda Gowda when he was the railway minister. As per the original plan, this train was to run from Central railway station.

Today Mangalore is not as it was 30 years ago. The city has developed by leaps and bounds. Today it is the educational and medical hub in the region. People from all over the country come to the city. There is need for more north and east bound trains with Mangalore as the starting point. So creation of a separate division for Mangalore is indispensable. DVS said it was impossible to create a separate division for the city for reasons better known to him. Now let us hope (Suresh) Prabhu ki krupa will prevail over namma Kudla.

We had requested a few Facebook pages to highlight this issue but they're fit only to post random nonsense and nothing else. Such important issues don't seem interesting enough to them. Shame on us, the people of Mangalore, for not rising up to the occasion.

Under the guise of converting the meter gauge into broad gauge the Southern Railway discontinued the direct train from Mysore to Mangalore under the Laloo leadership. Now the train is permanently discontinued. Since a separate train is commissioned from Bangalore to Mangalore, it is appropriate to start the train from mysore to mangalore henceforth.

I fully agree with Albert, Mangalore. Since Mangalore is under Pallakad division of Sothern Railway, we coastal Karnataka people are suffering since ages, some of them is listed below-
    1. All the Kerala &TN bound trains which terminates at Mangalore Central is mainly used by Mallus & Tamils. But for native Mangaloreans, the necessary trains which are mainly towards north (Mumbai) & East (Bengaluru) is being made to terminated at Kankanady stations due to step-mother treatment of Southern railway.
    2. The revenue generated from the goods train from Mangalore Port is being utilized towards the railway development in Palakkad division. Mangalore Port line comes under Palakkad division of Southern railway.
    3. Mangalore-Bangalore train was started a few years ago after a long struggle, however the Mallus were able to divert one train to Kerala.
    4. It has been also come to known that the Southern railway which has rejected the local proposal to extend the Mumbai -Mangalore Junction train to Mangalore Central, has granted permission to Kerala bound new train to enter Mangalore central.
    5. Konkan railway's initial plan to include Mangalore Central under its jurisdiction has been fraudulently altered by mallus to include in their Palakkad division.

To get justice to local people, following things need to be done with full cooperation from administration, police..
    1. To conduct non-stop protest in Mangalore Central Station till the North/East bound trains are made to start from Mangalore Central station.
    2. If the railway does not agree for the demand, stop all the trains moving towards south.
    3. Creation of seperate Mangalore division.
    4. Employee only local people in Mangalore railway division.
    5. Mangalore-Hassan section should be used utilized for the requirements of local coastal people. Later only kerala bound trains should be allowed in this route. Karnataka govt. has paid 50% of project cost here.
    6. Bus lobby should be stopped.

    I totally agree with Kishore.
We have to blame our Politicans. Our area could have been easily under SWR/KR but our area Politicans don't know what is SR / SWR / KR. They only talk of giving 30 kgs rice to the down trodden which is 50% siphoned off by middlemen etc. This is just one of the case.
Pls note upto Padil station it is under SR and few meters after Padil station SWR Jurisdiction starts towards Bantwala. See the apathy

The following action plan must be initiated.
    1. Mangalore area must be under KR. Logically as of now Mangalore Division is not possible. Hence it should go to KR or under SWR. Our Politicians can do it if they have the nerve. Pls note when Mallikarjun Kharge was the Railway Minister he initiated Pit Lanes, in Gulbarga, Bidar and announced the Gulbarga Division under SWR. This is not yet operational and I feel before 2019 this will be operational. He personally saw to that pit lanes was done. This is the challenge we need from our Coastal Karnataka Politicians.
    2. HMRDA must be scrapped and till then there are severe restrictions of operation of Passenger trains between Subramanya Road & Sakhleshpur.
    3. Kannadigas must be given job opportunities.

I was seeing all comments by readers and was seeing only saying + & - of Nalin Kumar Kateel. Pls note Mangalore Railway has crossed 100 yrs and after Independence this area was under Palghat Division of SR and till today it is with them. Many Politicians became Cabinet Ministers from our area, Railway Ministers, but nobody took interest in the development of Railways in Mangalore area. It was George Fernandes who was instrumental in railway extension from Mangalore towards Karwar and Roha section. It was decided that Mangalore will come under KR. I want to know why our so called verterans Janardhan Poojary, Oscar Fernandes, Veerappa Moily who were in prominent positions didn't take initiation for moving to KR or SWR. Due to Kerala Politicians pressure this remained with SR. When SWR was announced in 1996 by Deve Gowda it was decided that Mangalore will be under SWR or KR. No action was taken. Pls let us not do the blame game. I want every politician it should be united Congrees/BJP go united to get our jobs done in Center. In Kerala all MP's irrespective of Party go united and get the job done. Janardhan Poojary will give speeches only against useless issues and let him fight now alongwith other veterans and then see. Pls note I'm neither a BJP supporter nor Congress nor affilitied to any religious institution. I'm a rail fain and want overall development of Railways in Coastal Karnataka and want the Complete Mangalore area come under KR. Mangalore Division is not possible for the time being and if KR becomes a zone then Karwar office (region ) can be moved to Mangalore and then Mangalore Division is practical.

The topic was SR not allowing the new Kudla Express to enter Central and SWR giving lame reasons to avoid running the Kudla Express. The response we got? ZERO! NONE! When we have such lethargic citizens who can't fight for such a major issue, it's such a shame, isn't it?

Why the station needs more platforms? To complete track doubling work between Netravati Cabin to Central railway station will take a long time. First and foremost let the MP see to the road leading to the station from the Town Hall side. This MP as not done anything good for the District and he can never claim the good state of the District.

There are plenty of trains starting from Mangalore to Kerala side. Just make sure few of the terminate at Ullal station and do not allow them to enter Mangalore central.
Make sure Karwar -Bangalore train travels through Shravanabelegula , but not Mysore. Let them run one more train from Vasco to Mysore via Mangalore.
