Udupi: Police arrest eighth accused in connection with robbery case

Udupi, Mar 28: Police have arrested the eighth accused of robbery of gold and cash that stunned Udupi district. The seven other accused, including the kingpin were arrested earlier.

The search for yet another accused is in progress.The arrested accused has been identified as Mohammed Atheef (19). He was arrested near Uchila Malingeshwra store. He is a resident of Mulloru Kapikad.

It is said that he was one of the accused in the kidnap and robbery of gold and cash from Dileep T D (53) a wholesale gold dealer from Trissur (Kerala) on March 17.

He was absconding after the robbery. Police who received definite information of his whereabouts arrested him in Uchila. Cash found with him was handed over to Hiriadka police station.

DCIB police inspector Sampath Kumar, DCIB staff, ASI Rosario D’ Souza, head constable Ravichandra, Suresh Kumar, Chandra Shetty, Ramu Hegde, Ravindra Uppunda, Santhosh Kunder, Praveen Marakala, Dayananda Prabhu, Raj Kumar, Shivananda Poojary and driver Raghavendra participated in the operation.

Earlier, Dilip T D, after receiving cash from Gayatri Jewellers and keeping the gold and cash in his jacket was sitting in the bus on his way from Hiriadka market to Udupi on March 17.

Meanwhile accused Javed (25) resident of Malpe Kola, Ashraf (34) resident of Belapu, Ilahid (24) resident of Kundapur Hemmadi Santhosh Nagar, Ravichandra (41) resident of Kundapur Kergal, Sumanth Kumar (24) resident of Kundapur Kirimanjeshwar and Mohammed Atheef (19) who followed the gold dealer brandished toy gun and threatened Dilip in the guise of policemen. They forced him out from the bus and made him sit in the car brought by accused Mohammed Irfan (30) and together with two other accused drove to Padubidri via Alevooru.

They robbed 1500 grams gold, Rs 2,57,200 cash from Dileep and fled. Dileep had complained in Hiriadka police station.
Police have already arrested eight accused and are searching for ninth accused.
