Nigerians attacked in Greater Noida; five arrested; CM Yogi assures fair probe

Greater Noida, Mar 28 (PTI): Four Nigerian students were allegedly attacked by residents who took out a candle-light march for a 17-year-old boy who had died last week due to suspected drug overdose.

Five people have been arrested by the police in Uttar Pradesh in connection with the attack.

The protest march was taken out after police released some Nigerians detained for questioning in connection with the death of the Class 12 student, Manish, in Greater Noida's NSG Black Cats Enclave due to "lack of evidence".

The boy's parents had alleged that the foreigners had kidnapped him and given him drugs which caused his death.

Sujata Singh, Superintendent of Police, Greater Noida said the protesters became violent during the march and started beating up the Africans they saw on the road.

"They also went to Ansal Mall and caused havoc and beat up Africans there. Police then rescued them and moved them to a safe place," she said.

"Police had to use force to dissuade people from attacking and arrested 5 people from the spot. Many of them who were there trying to play mischief have been identified as the entire event had been videographed. An FIR has been registered and action will be taken accordingly," Daljit Chaudhary, ADG Law and Order, told reporters here.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said the central government was taking immediate action and that she had spoken to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath who had assured her of a fair and impartial investigation into this "unfortunate" incident.

The Greater Noida Superintendent of Police said the police had not yet given a clean chit to the Nigerian nationals accused by the victim's parents.

Students from countries like Nigeria, Tanzania, Sudan, Somalia, etc. need to be given special treatment since they come from drug infested countries and spoil our students. For them India has become a free for all, a haven for their nefarious activities, taking undue advantage of the loose laws and freedom in the country. They don’t dare to involve in such activities in GCC countries.

Yep, if something happens in a BJP ruled state, only BJP is responsible. Ever since Modi came to power, there have have been a lot of attempts to defame him

    PAM,
Your comments cannot be justified at all.
What about the indigenous hard cores, addicts, rapist etc. Why can't public treat them appropriately.
Do you expect similar punishment needs to be meted to Indians who live abroad?

    Dear Flavi,

I do agree that my comment is not acceptable, but those who are not ready to follow the law of land, that time we need to teach them in their own language. or else there is no value for ones existence.

Secondly for your info, whichever country Indians go, our people follows law of their resident country more than its own locals.
So our country guys are having much value in all foreign countries.
We are role models to others, but only in our country we some time hesitate to follow our own lwas to the full extent, tries to pass by short cut!!!
Eenthough our country is great. Proud to be indian.

The reason for the riot is drug overdose of the student by some Nigerians but why attacking Africans indiscriminately just watching their colour. This type of hooliganism is nothing less than a jungle rule. Public is acting as if there no law of the land. There are millions of Indians all over the world and we hardly come across any racialism, other than some minor incidents. India’s name and reputation is lowered by such acts. The government should act sternly and punish those who are responsible. Addiction to alcohol, drugs, and narcotics is not a new phenomenon or taught by foreigners. There are so many people who are addicted in different ways. Who cares and whom to blame. All goes un-noticed.

So you mean to say that apart from CM & PM... all MLA's & MP's shall remain mute spectators ????
In those terms you have lost your right to criticize any of the MLA's & MP's, irrespective of their political affiliations.
