Udupi: Ballal family donates mobile mortuary for public use

Udupi, Mar 28: “Ballal family had donated an electric-powered mobile mortuary to Zilla Nagarika Samiti Trust (district civil committee trust) for public service,” said social worker Nityananda Olakadu on Monday March 27 at Udupi press club.

The AC mortuary will be useful in carrying the dead body in long distance travel.

“This is the first of its kind to offer free service to the people in Udupi. The total cost of this mobile mortuary is Rs 90,000. The box has a length 80 inches, a width of 36 inches and height of 18 inches.”

Nityananda Olakadu further said, “There are nine mortuaries in the district hospital which are full all the time. So, we have decided to provide free mobile mortuary. The customers or users will have to take care of its maintenance (cleaning) and transport charges. There is no time limit for them to return. The mobile mortuary van will be kept at the Zilla Nagarika Samiti office. The service will be available to all irrespective of caste and creed. People who need the service can contact 9164901111 to avail the facility.”

The mortuary box has been contributed by children of late N Sripati Ballal and late N Padmakshi Ballal, namely N Muralidhar Ballal (son) and Swathi Muralidhar Ballal.

The box requires 1/3 HB compressor for its use.

K Ganesh Rao, managing director General Crafter, Fr Fredrik Macarenhas, Mother of Sorrows church, Udupi, Nazeer Ahamed among others were present.
