Kundapur, Mar 27: A person died and 28 people sustained injuries in an accident between a tanker, bus and bike at Nagori on NH 66 near here that took place on Monday, March 27.

Narayan Acharya (43) from Sringeri is the person deceased.

The tanker was on its way from Kundapur to Goa after filling petrol. Meanwhile a speeding private bus named Ambaji hit the tanker after overtaking another vehicle. It also hit a bike approaching from behind. Tanker driver died on the spot.

28 people including bike rider have been seriously injured in the accident. The front portions of the lorry and the bus have been crushed in the impact.

The bus was put into service as the regular bus was not available. It is said that the driver was driving at high speed as the trip was delayed.

Body of tanker driver has been kept in Kundapur government hospital mortuary.

Traffic was in chaos for about one and half hours due to the accident.

Byndoor police and people helped in the rescue operations and in directing of traffic.

Four-lane work is in progress from Kundapur to Karwar on NH 66 and accidents have increased here during the last few months.

The injured persons are: Devendra Honda(31),  Dinesh Achar(30), Hiriyanna(37), Suchendra(21), Geetha(36), Suma(45), Vikram (32), Seetha(40), Chaitra(26), Raju(52), Devaki(38), Sampritha(20), Supritha(20), Divya(31), Manjunath Acharya(38), Lalitha Devadiga(39), Girija Balegar (45), Eshwar(29), Juliet(47), Zuber Basha(40), Juliet Lobo(48), Ramesh Acharya(27) and Ravi(38).

A case stands registered in Byndoor police station.
