Shiv Sena MP who assaulted AI staffer leaves train midway, untraceable

Mumbai, Mar 25 (PTI): Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Gaikwad, who was forced to take a train from Delhi after all major airlines in the country put him on their no-fly list for assaulting a senior Air India official, today did not get down at the Mumbai Central station here as expected. He is understood to have got down at Vapi station in Gujarat, Sena sources said. However, it was not clear whether he headed for Mumbai or Osmanabad, his constituency.

Gaikwad, who had on Thursday abused and assaulted a 60-year-old duty manager of the national carrier with slippers over not being able to fly business class despite having boarded an all-economy Pune-New Delhi flight, had not reached his home at Umarga in Osmanabad district till 9 PM today even as his supporters and media persons gathered there. There was speculation that he would meet Sena president Uddhav Thackeray, who has sought an explanation from him over the incident.

Air India and major domestic airlines have barred the 57-year-old MP from flying as he refused to apologise for the incident that triggered nationwide outrage. Gaikwad boarded the August Kranti Express, which left for Mumbai from Hazrat Nizamuddin station at 4.50 PM yesterday. Delhi Police has registered two FIRs, charging him with culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

Gaikwad has remained defiant and unrepentant, and instead blamed the airline employee, R Sukumar, for the incident. "Kaahe ka pashchaataap (what is there to repent)? I will not apologise ... he (Sukumar) should come and apologise. Then we will see. A 60-year-old man should know how to behave," he had said in Delhi yesterday. Sukumar, whose effigy was burnt by Sena workers in Tuljapur yesterday, has alleged that the MP had used foul language, snatched his glasses, pinned him to the ground and hit him with a slipper when he tried to persuade him to get off the plane.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena spokesperson Manisha Kayande said "Party has taken the incident (of AI staffer's assault) seriously. We do not subscribe to such instances." "Gaikwad is expected to meet Uddhav Thackeray," she said.

This MP should be dealt with same language which he used on the public servant.
Now it is high time we the citizen of India need to make collective decision in the interest of the nation and fight through public interest litigation and cleanse the political system.

We as a common citizen of India can't vote or get Passport if their is criminal proceeding. Why do the same law is not applicable to the people's representatives who themselves fill affidavit and fake degrees for nomination?

Please for the sake of nation join the 'Association for democratic reforms' and send your advice.
Kindly join together to make our nation progress and end the corruption from the heart of democracy.

Assaulting the doctors is the present day norm in Delhi and Mumbai. I think, this man may have thought it is as easy as hitting a doctor and will be hailed as a hero. His calculation has gone wrong.

According to TOI, he got down at Mathura complaining chest pain. Whether he boarded the train or went to Krishna Janma Bhoomi for the atonement of his sins, is not known. It is also said, that people were waiting at Mumbai Central with garland of chappals for him, sensing this, he may have alighted at previous stops, that are Borivli or Andheri.

One has to be humble. It doesnt matter whether a airticket or any other things in life.Afterall victim was Senior officer a 60years old Person.when you respect others ,you too will be respected, otherwise, respect cant be bought.Good that allmost all Major Airlines put him on their list of..Now he is yielding the fruits of his work.when now atleast he should comeforward and realize ,beg pardon for his behaviour.otherwise it is a very very bad Name for his Party ,himself, his Family ,children. It is not yet too late, when not ready ,might be pelted out from patry.

Nothing is gone to happen to this rogue MP. By now his party would have made all arrangements for his bail.
The whole episode is nothing but a drama enacted by the Shiv Sena along with the ruling BJP. The police took more than 30 hours to file an FIR in Delhi by which time this goon had left for his hometown.
He knows pretty well that he is very safe in his state as his party is with an alliance with the BJP. They must have worked out a strategy by now to ensure that nothing happens to Gaikwad.
Both the Shiv Sena and the BJP have fooled the people of India. It is not an assault on the Air India staffer, it is an assault of democracy, it is an assault on those who preach lofty ideals but nothing comes out of that preaching. It is a slap on the face of the government. The politicians are all on the same page. In a few days the people will forget everything and it will be business as usual until this goon abuses and slaps another government official on duty.
