Mangaluru, Mar 23: Congress committees of Mangaluru south constituency, Valencia and Kankanady B wards on Thursday March 23 staged a strong protest against slow pace of flyover work at Pumpwell and other development works in the city.

Expressing his dismay on the speed of work at Pumpwell flyover, Ujjodi underpass, service roads and drainages, Dakshina Kannada interim Congress president Ibrahim Kodijal said, "The four-lane work on national highway 66 which began in 2009 is still going on. The delay in the construction is causing trouble to commuters with cement and other things lying on either side of the road. The highway authority should take immediate action and complete the work."

Corporator Asha D'Silva said, "This delay in work not only creates problems for commuters, but also poses serious health risks due to pollution."

Balakrishna Shetty, president, Congress committee south constituency, informed that the protesters would submit a memorandum to the deputy commissioner regarding the slow pace of work. He also thanked the locals for their support to the protest.

Youth Congress leader Ashith Pereira, Seva Dal president Ashraf, Mary D'Souza and others were present.

Bjp blames congress, congress blames bjp and their stupid supporters do the same.

India is always going to be a developing nation and not a developed one.

Instead of putting the photos only of the Congress party protestors , it would have been good if they had put some pictures of those 2 concrete pillars standing from last 2 years. When ever I pass by I see 2 concrete poles with 2 workers putting water on the pillars with a bucket . If only 2 workers are seen working on this flyover project , then the work will not complete even in the next 15 years. Not sure why this project again went to Navayuga Constructions, when they have already delivered shoddy work in Bantwal, Kuloor flyover constructions etc.

Wish Ibrahim Kodijal also succeed in convincing his community not to construct unauthorised and unscientific road humps on Thokottu - Konaje state highway . Tt would be considered a great support to the public. Public might have noticed dangers such unscientific humps between Derlakatte and Konaje.

Its a fact that all the works pertaining to many important projects are going on a snails pace. Works should be completed within a reasonable time and not dragging it for years together. but why this protest within the Party? Misunderstanding is within the family people itself!

    Dear Mr. Nash,
National Highways come under Central Government, everything from construction to maintenance is Central Government's responsibility. They are delaying the project only to show the state government in bad light. I am sure you know this.

Who does this fly over will be completed when our own elected BJP MP Nalin Kumar is busy protesting for compensation for his fanatic friend.

I wonder who this city is qualified for 'smart city' without smart people.

Since 1991 Mangalore city from next 25 years is ruled by BJP. The MP is also once union minister. The city much achived 'acche din' at least one decade before and surpass the best city India.

Unfortunately other than for wrong reasons like pub attack, morning mist attack, cow vigilantes, moral police no one heard anything good for the citizens. Once know for unity and friendly people and education hub know slipped to third spot.

Mangalorean are directly responsible for their own fate for electing wrong people to the power. Imagine a MP who can't a raise one question for the sake of city but forefront in protesting for fanatic people what can be achieved?

Suratkal - Udupi Highway still not completed, Mr.Oscar was the Minister for National Highway Authorities, How much Commission he got to allot a contract to corrupt Mr. Jagan's Nuvyug Co.??

When asked him about the this Company, when he was Minister, he said I did not know this Contractor. Without knowing the Company background he aloted so large contract to them....What a funny statement. Because Mr. Jagan the Owner of this company was in Jail for corruption charges.
