UK Parliament 'Terror' attack: 5 dead including cop, 40 hurt

London, Mar 23 (Agencies) : Five people were killed and 40 others injured in a "terrorist" attack in the heart of London Wednesday when a man mowed down pedestrians on a bridge, then stabbed a police officer outside parliament before being shot dead.

Police guarding the iconic House of Commons building shot the man but several people were left with "catastrophic" injuries on Westminster Bridge, a busy traffic junction popular with tourists with views of Big Ben.

The car crashed into the railings outside the heavily guarded parliament building and witnesses described a man leaping out of the vehicle into the grounds of parliament and stabbing a police officer.

The incident comes with Europe on high alert after a series of deadly jihadist attacks and exactly a year after jihadists killed 32 people in a bomb attack in Brussels.

The parliament building was immediately sealed off and MPs and staff ordered to remain inside. "We are treating this as a terrorist incident," police said in a statement.

Those dead included the police officer and the attacker, authorities said. David Lidington, the British minister responsible for arranging government business, told MPs: "It seems that a police officer has been stabbed, that the alleged assailant was shot by armed police." Prime Minister Theresa May is safe, her Downing Street office said, and was preparing to chair a meeting of the government's COBRA emergencies committee.

She was seen being driven away from parliament. Police cordoned off a large area in Westminster and tourists on the London Eye, a popular tourist attraction, were stuck 135 metres (443 feet) in the air for around an hour during the incident. The local Underground station at Westminster was also closed off.

Unless the citizens of the world learn to live in peace, religious harmony & tolerance, these type of incidents and terror attacks may continue and go out of control. May the souls of the departed rest in peace and may the injured persons be able to recover and come back to normal at the earliest.

Let's hope that all the world leaders (political, as well as religious) sit together as one family, and resolve to not allow their thoughts/beliefs to disturb the peace, tranquility & brotherhood among all countries/all races, in the interests of peace and prosperity in this world.

My prayers are with the deceased ones and their innocent families. Its so sad .Spitting on the hands that fed you. When trump implements some measure, the world calls him a nut case, racist & there are wide protests predominantly by immigrants. Its a language of a looser..

A tiny nation called Israel is located right in the middle of ISIS stronghold, and surrounded by several enemy states. However we don't see a single lone wolf attack there. Its because they treat bu!!s#it as bu!!s#it. You kill one they will wipe you off from face of the world. Its a right time other countries learn from Israel.

Schengen visa holders can travel 28 European countries, whereas UK has its own visa. UK has a very strict Biometrics before issuing visa and while entering also, they do biometric verification. Hence, terrorism can be controlled to an extent.

As far as people who were stuck in the capsules of London Eye, I think they are lucky to have been in for an hour, when one has to pay about 25 British Pounds (Rs 2200) for a 10 minutes one revolution ride.

I was always telling. This was bound to happen. Its payback time. The immigrants will convert Europe to the place where they have originally come from. Sorry to hear this, RIP Europe.

I really appreciate the matured behavior of UK authorities in not revealing the name and identity of the culprit. They have arrested seven till now in connection and not revealed anyone's name.

There is a huge pakistani population settled in UK, contributing heavily to the economy. At a point of time when local English are near boiling point, the government acts very carefully to prevent any hate crimes.

    Well done UK.

..no need to reveal..every one knows immediately whats going on..you may call it stereotype, but it comes from fact..these countries are invited trouble, first by meddling in ME just for the sake of friendly country or for oil, then by inviting some of the unthankfull refugees from all over the world..now reeping fruits..immigrants should be like TIBETIans who are in INDIA since nearly four decade..no issues, no ruckus, no backstab, no terrorism..

Now they have to stop accepting " refugees". And send back all those who have already crossed the border either illegally or as a refugee / asylum seeker.

All the European countries are in serious threat. If they don't stop accepting refugees they will have to face more attacks in future.
Donald Trump was right. These people don't deserve any mercy.

This is new normal. All are welcome, preach what you like, believe what you like and fight for what you believe as rest of the countries watch. Trump has given a wake up call but he alone can't defeat terrorists. others don't want to call them terrorists.

.support trump, throw out anti nationals..he only realised what his predecessors, his counterparts in EU did blunders by welcoming unthankful people..Trump reportedly refused to even handshake Ms.MERKEL, who is trying to become a saint..they say only 5% radicalised, rest are peaceful..is this 95% really count!..these peaceful people are there during 9/11, during train bla#t, during Boston bombing, during every other terror acts..what they are doing, are they doing anything to weed out this nonsense..who will own responsibility..
