City to be beautified with gardens, mobile toilets to come up: Mayor

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SB)

Mangaluru, Mar 22: Mayor Kavita Sanil on Tuesday March 21 revealed several plans to develop Mangaluru during her tenure.

Addressing mediapersons during the 'Meet the Press' programme here on Tuesday March 21, she said, "MCC will soon be fully computerised. In addition to cleanliness, we have also ordered the removal of unwanted poles all over the city. Gardening and painting will be undertaken in some parts of the city which would make the city more beautiful. We are planning to form committees comprising public and corporators for the maintenance of the gardens.

"High-tech city bus stand, mobile toilets, name boards for all roads, online tax and bill payment facility are a few of the projects I want to complete in my term. I will take it as a challenge and try to implement all projects during my tenure," she said.

"Mobile toilet project has been already started in collaboration with a private company. As many as five toilets near Kadri and Lalbhag are presently under construction," she added.

Regarding rationing water supply to the city during summer, she said, "There will be no change in the schedule of water rationing. "The water supply will be stalled and restored every 36 hours up till May end. At the same time, the district administration is trying to meet the chief minister to ask financial grants and permit increase in the height of Thumbay dam from the existing five to seven metres. Once its happens, Mangaluru will have sufficient water."

The new mayor also thanked the media for its consistent support.

Earlier, press club president Jagannath Shetty Bala honoured Kavita Sanil.

Former mayor Shashidhar Hegde and press club secretary Shrinivas were present.

Good job, Madam Mayor, and thank you very much for all your focus in developing the City of Mangalore with best possible cleanliness, orderliness and discipline. The smart City such as Mangalore is now blessed with your Leadership, and we wish you best of success in all your endeavors. The City is growing steadily and therefore your close focus on various matters relating to cleanliness and orderliness is of paramount importance. When the City is progressing, it is obviously a good reflection on the Mayor of the City.

Mobile toilets is a marvellous idea, but these mobile toilets need prompt and efficient maintenance and cleanliness, otherwise it will be bad for health and hygiene. All the new amenities cost money and effort, but if need be additional taxes have to be levied in order meet the committments.

Thank you for your good work, and God bless

This is a very good initiative by MCC. However first the corporation must have necessary arrangements or contracts to maintain those gardens otherwise the money spent on these gardens will just be a waist.

Dear Mayor kindly address issues of water drainage parking first. Gardens can come later. Also for mobile food stalls issue licences with random checks. Street lighting solar so that the corporation need not pay bills to MESCOM. In regard to parking ensure buildings to have ample parking before license is issued for construction. Kindly disclose to Public accounts of expenditure towards money made and received for public works for development in city. Let's make Mangalore a Smart City with Smart planning.
