Mangaluru: Relief from heat- summer showers lash parts of DK

Mangaluru, Mar 22: Several parts of Dakshina Kannada (DK) district received summer showers on Tuesday, March 21 giving relief to people from heat to some extent.

Subramanya, Dharmasthala and Beltangady received moderate rains. Ujire, Punjalkatte, Mani, Kepu, Punacha received good rains.

Madanthyar received heavy rains with lightning and thunder. Bantwal and Puttur experienced heavy winds during the moderate rains. Uppinangadi received rains with hailstorms which destroyed the crops. In some place damages have been done to plants and properties due to rains.


Kokkada 

Sullia and Kadaba received light showers with heavy winds.

A tanker toppled on Golithottu Bridge due to rains and traffic was affected for few hours

Road traffic was disrupted at Kokkada when a giant tree fell on the road.

Mangaluru city is yet to receive summer showers of this season. It is remembered that city is facing acute water shortage and Mangaluru City Corporation has started water rationing with effect from March 20. The effect of the present rains in DK district on the water level at Thumbay is not yet known.
