Bengaluru: Modi has no concern for children and women, says CM

Bengaluru, Mar 21: In a scathing attack against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP government at the Centre, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday told the Legislative Assembly that the BJP Government at the Centre has massively cut funds for Integration of Child Development Programme (ICDS), a flagship programme.

“Is this the concern you have towards welfare of children and women, particularly Anganwadi workers,’’ said Siddaramaiah and termed the Modi government as “anti-women.”

Following drastic cut in funds, the Centre’s has reduced its share of funds in the implementation of the ICDS from 90 per cent during UPA regime to barely 60 per cent in 2017-18.

Replying to the Opposition BJP and JD(S) demand for increasing the honorarium for Anganawadi workers from the present Rs 7,000 to Rs 10,000 per month, the Chief Minister said the reduction of allocation has burdened the State government.

The honorarium for assistants has been increased from Rs 1500 during 2007-08 to Rs 7000 in 2017-18, he said.

Out of the Rs 7,000 monthly honorarium, Centre contributes a meagre R 1800 while the State share is a whopping Rs 5200, Siddaramaiah said and asked how can we pay with our limited resources.

When the Chief Minister showed no inclination towards increasing honorarium, the JD(S) and BJP members rushed to well of the House and staged a dharna.

Siddaramaiah criticised the BJP members’ stubborn attitude and said meagre of Rs 700 was hiked during five year rule of the BJP.

BJP Leader of the Opposition Jagadish Shettar said the Chief Minister was misleading the house by providing wrong data.

JD(S) leader Kumaraswamy said increase of honorarium to Rs 10,000 a month would cost the State exchequer an additional Rs 612 crore in the Rs 1.86 lakh crore budget, which was negligible.

The BJP and the JD(S) members withdrew their dharna in the Assembly in the evening after Siddaramaiah assured the House of holding consultations with the representatives of protesting Anganawadi workers on April 19 on their demands.

Making it clear that the State Government had an “open mind” on the demands of the Anganawadi workers, Siddaramaiah said he would discuss their demands elaborately on April 19.

“Anganwadi workers’ union leader Varalaxmi, Nidumamidi Math seer Veerabhadra Channamalla Swamiji, progressive thinker Marulasiddappa and CPM leader Maruthi Manpade met me today to discuss about the protest by Anganwadi workers in Bengaluru. I have conveyed to them about the decision to hold a meeting on April 19 and they have agreed to attend the meeting,” the Chief Minister said.

“We will do our best to solve the problem and help the Anganawadi workers unlike the heartless Modi government at the Centre,’’ he said taunting the BJP members.

is it... wow... all heard ? siddu woke up and he finds Modi to blame... now for children and women. This guy slept whole era and now facing election. through out he forgot there is something called Term. He and his team behaved as if they won Karnataka for their life time and they can loot for ever. Now woke and realized it's over. Few months left. Complete failure from administration and complete failure on Law and order, these people should hide somewhere now after the election. BJP is like Ashwamedha they are cleaning Congress from State by state. Next election, it will be a clear Majority for BJP and then starts the fun. Each and every scams, cheatings , illegal activities will of this govt will be exposed.
Karnataka people are just waiting for that time to come. Ending with a simple note.. .this joker doesn't have the credibility to talk a personality like Modi. Shame on this guy.

India will never develope with present BJP or Congress government. We all are concerned about our religion than about development. After demonetization, we started paying more taxes in all point of view., So much money spent on recent elections. People are casting their votes on religion bases and candidates are just focusing on religion, trying to conflicts between cast and religion whether BJP , congress or any other party bothered about development. Common man is suffering between these parties. During election time all the parties are giving high hopes on development. But nothing is going to happen. Those who are going to make through corruption, they will make and enjoy and run the government with their goondagiri. Last we say Jai Hind.

With all due respects to CM, I might agree with his point. But look at the condition of women, children and senior citizens in Karnataka.
    1. Girls are molested and raped regularly. What has he done to stop this nuisance.
    2. Children are treated with sub-standard food in schools and hostel facilities, and children die consuming poisonous food. What action has been taken against such irradical service providers.
    3. City bus services in Mangalore are king of roads. Neither children, women and senior citizens can get into the bus, nor treated fairly. This is goonda raj in Mangalore. What has CM done to bring down the atrocities faced by our families while public transport should be user friendly to the public. By taking hafta from the bus mafia, he and he fellow MLA's are turning a blind eye on the ongoing goonda raj in DK. What is our CM talking about?
    4. police officers are transferred, commiting suicide due to pressure by his MLA's and families loosing their near and dear once, bread winners due to Murderous act by the MP & MLA's. What about this this ruthless act by his Govt.

He has lost all his right, respect from people of DK, and he has no right to comment on our honorable PM.
    Jai Karnataka, Jai Hind.
