Bengaluru, Mar 19: If sources are to be believed, the charming Priyanka Gandhi will contest her first election from Karnataka in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls of 2019 and before that, she will also be a star campaigner in state Assembly elections of 2018.
Karnataka Congress wants to bring Priyanka Gandhi 6 months before the 2018 Assembly elections. As per sources, Congress is planning to hold a mega rally to introduce her in the state and then more rallies will follow. Effectively with more participation in Karnataka, she will be a star campaigner. She had played a limited role in Uttar Pradesh in the just concluded polls.
The idea came from a group in the Congress which is close to Siddaramaiah. It is believed that state Congress leaders alone cannot win elections through their campaigning. State needs a charming person to do that. Priyanka Gandhi who the Congress leaders say 'looks' like her grandmother Indira Gandhi, is their best choice.
Congress leaders also fear that Narendra Modi-Amit Shah duo is expected to head down south after their victory in Uttar Pradesh. They feel that Rahul Gandhi alone cannot match them. Hence Priyanka is desperately needed here.
It is said that the proposal has been accepted by the Congress high command and finer details are worked out. If everything goes on as planned, then Priyanka will contest from Lok Sabha from Karnataka as her grandmother and mother did.
