Bengaluru, Mar 18: The shifting of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) Ramanagaram in the city outskirts is confirmed and there is no change.

Though Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala had reportedly asked the State Government to shelve the shifting of the University, Energy Minister D K Shivakumar, who is also the official district in-charge of Ramangaram, said the State Government will go ahead with the move and the process will commence from Sunday itself.

Shivakumar and Medical Education Minister Sharanprakash Patil met the Governor at Raj Bhavan and convinced the latter on the need for the shifting of the university.

The new campus will be around 40 kms away from Karnataka’s capital of Bengaluru.

All departments of the university would be shifted by June 2017, SAID Energy Minister D K Shivakumar.

College managements had opposed the move and submitted a petition to Governor Vajubhai Vala.

Shivakumar and Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil on Friday called on Vala to discuss the issue. They explained the necessity of shifting the university outside the city.

Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru on Saturday, Shivakumar said the Governor wants the State Government to safeguard the interest of students while shifting the campus.

The JD(S)-BJP coalition government had taken the decision to shift the campus in 2006. Later, the State legislature passed a Bill to this effect.

Citing examples of the shifting Visvesvaraya Technological University to Belagavi and Women’s University to Vijayapura, Shivakumar said no student would be affected by the shift since classes will be held in the respective medical colleges in various districts.

In the present state after 20 years since inception the university cannot be recognised, because it is a Govt.University it is surviving. There is 400 acre campus,no standard library,no attached PhD and PG colleges in the campus,no Quarters, and really no requirements as required.Without having the requrements it shamelessly inspected and punished many institutions for requirements. The chota leaders and many agents of students in and around the city wants to reach the rguhs fast if it is in Jayanagar.Let the University to have the requirements first. Thanks to Cong/BJP who ever is having the commitment to meet the requirements.
