Karkala, Mar 18: A journalist came under physical attack during a press conference held in the BJP office here on Friday March 17.

A person named Vasant Beltangady, working as supervisor of a weekly, assaulted journalist, R B Jagadish. A complaint about this incident was filed in the town police station here.

Local unit of BJP had convened this press conference, and journalists had attended it. Acting president of Karkala Journalists Union, R B Jagadish, was giving detailed information about the rules and regulations of the union, duly asking the organizers to follow the rules properly, when Vasant raised objections against the rules and the union. In response, the president clarified that only those who have memberships of the district committee belong to the Journalists Union. He also asserted that it would be improper for people who are not journalists to raise objections. He also said that people who do not have membership as above are not eligible to become members of this union. Vasant, who got angry at the loss of face he suffered due to this response, attacked Jagadish with the camera stand.

A complaint about this incident was filed in the town police station here, duly naming Vasant Beltangady as the accused. In a counter complaint, Vasant Beltangady filed complaint in the same police station, alleging that R B Jagadish had beaten him up.
