Mangaluru, Mar 17: The Dakshina Kannada district unit of the Mahila Congress held a protest in front of the DC's office here on Friday, March 17 against the increase in the price of non-subsidised cooking gas.

Assuring complete support and praising Mahila Congress for the protest, Dakshina Kannada interim Congress president Ibrahim Kodijal said, "This BJP-led central government is a bane for women in India. Common people are suffering as the government is making corporate-friendly policies.

"Despite the fall in prices of crude oil in international market, Modi government is increasing the prices of fuel, especially LPG. It is time for our women to come out on streets, protest and condemn the government's anti-women policies," he said.

Shalet Pinto, president of Dakshina Kannada district women's Congress unit said, "It is 'achche din' for Modi's allies only. People of three states out of five rejected BJP and showed faith in Congress in the recently concluded elections. BJP came to power in Goa and Manipur using its money power which is a clear case of cheating and disrespecting the people's verdict. PM Modi is the mastermind behind this. He cannot understand the problems women in India are going through right now due to rising prices. As he is seeing everything through the business point of view, he is not bothered about the hike in price of LPG."

Earlier, a street play was performed by Mahila Congress members. Giving a unique touch to the protest, the members also kick-started the protest by preparing tea using firewood.

Former mayors Jacintha and Hilda Alva, Ganesh Poojary and others were present.

This event ladies and gentlemen, is the rise of the Neanderthal kind. A historic comeback from extinction. Of course, these primitive creatures do not know what that red cylindrical thing is, so they kept it so close to the fire not knowing that it could blow up.

Oops what a huge protest 20 people. For how many days will you cook on the roadside? Your Cong has lost credibility. Nothing is gonna bring back whats lost. Get ready for a 2018 drubbing. Your leader might then be in Thailand for 'god knows what' reasons.
