Kannur: Kottiyoor rape case - co-accused Fr Therakam, 2 nuns surrender

Daijiworld Media Network - Kannur (SP)

Kannur, Mar 17: Relating to the rape of a minor girl allegedly by the parish priest of Kottiyoor church sometime back, the three persons who have been named as co-accused, surrendered before the police at Kannur on Friday March 16. Those who surrendered on Monday morning were former chairman of Child Welfare Committee, Joseph Therakam, and members of the committee, Sr Ophelia and Sr Betty.

Allegedly, Fr Robin Vadakkumcherry attached to Kottiyoor church had raped a minor girl. The above-named persons have been charged with keeping the incident under wraps with the aim of shielding the priest. Since the case came into the open, these three persons had remained elusive. The rape victim, who is a student studying in eleventh standard, had given birth to a baby boy in February this year.

Surrendered co-accused

Main accused Fr Robin

Fr Therakam has been named as co-accused for his role in helping the main accused to flee the country. For this dubious act, he was divested of the post later.

The high court of Kerala had directed all the four persons named in the case, who were on the run, to surrender to the police. They include the main accused, Fr Therakam, and two nuns.

Prabhumams are very happy as they got a field day attacking Christian priest. But they had all the words to defend their (Un)Holy Swamis. Without DNA report and without court order, they have already come to the conclusion that all involved are guilty. Dear friends, only arrests are made. Charges are yet to be proved in the court. So until then, hold on your judgement.

There are so many priests from Mangalore all over the world. did not hear any black spots like this about them.

Why this happens more in Kerala? Some time back Keralite priest in the US was punished for sex related crime.

yes exactly. As per my knowledge i do not know about priest's story. But nuns were innocent. They received this child saying it is orphan.Poor sisters like mother Theresa took care of this child.Later they came to know the big story behind it. Even the child's mother is minor and so on story.....If sisters have surrendered means they are really innocent .....let us pray that God may reveal the truth.May God Almighty give them the strength to bear all the suffering during this Lenten season.....

Let the court do its job and let Law & Order do its duty. Everyone is sinners but when anyone who proclaims God's name and declares as God's messengers should not do such evil act. Hope if they did this evil act they must repent, and to live a good life God must excuse them.
