Not afraid : Indian Idol singer Afrin after 46 Assam clerics' fatwa against her

Guwahati, Mar 15 (India Today) : Nahid Afrin, the 16-year-old singer against whom a fatwa was issued by as many as 46 Muslim clerics in Assam, has decided to fight it out. Afrin, who was seen in the famous reality TV show Indian Idol, said she is not afraid of the threat and will continue to pursue her dream of making it big in the music industry.

"Was shocked and broken from inside at first, but many Muslim singers gave me inspiration to not quit music, will never do so," Afrin said.

"My singing is gift of God. I believe it must be properly utilised, not doing so is ignoring God," she said when asked about the fatwa issued against her.

As many as 46 Islamic organisations of Assam issued a fatwa against Afrin banning her from singing on stage citing Sharia laws. Pamphlets bearing the names of the 46 organisations/individuals were found in different parts of Assam such as Lanka, Hojai areas where Nahid is supposed to take part in a musical show on March 25.

"Magic, Dance, Drama, Theatre etc. are against Sharia laws. Events like musical shows are against the Sharia law and future generations will be corrupted," the pamphlet read.

Following reports of threat against the young singer, Assam Chief Sarbananda Sonowal called up Nahid assuring her of all help. Sonowal told Nahid that she will be provided proper security cover.

Other prominent persons of the state too have come out in support of Nahid.

Meanwhile, Assam Police said they were investigating whether the fatwa was a reaction to Nahid recently performing songs against terrorism, including the banned terror group Islamic State.

46 clerics in Assam issued fatwas against her, not because she is a female and she sang. The real reason is Afrin sang songs against the Islamic State and terrorism.

Singers are also learned the tricks of benefits of controversies like Bollywood movies before release.

In the past there are some talent shows in terms of knowledge. These days every channel wanted Indians to by singer.

There are many many rural inventions by ordinary people in India is gifting to the nation. Instead of encouraging the able people singers seem more important to the government.

Who are these Mullahs to interfere in someone's personal choice? As per news report, the main reason for issuing fatwa is for Nahid singing songs against terrorism including IS group. This proves that the Mullahs are more favorable to ISIS than the girl's singing. Who is going to issue fatwa to these mullahs for supporting terrorists? They should be strictly dealt with before it becomes too late to control them, if not, they will make India another Pakistan.
Meanwhile, the girl should be protected from these terrorist mullahs as it looks for me they go hand in hand with IS group.

    Roshan Braganza,
It is her choice, not yours. She is involved in singing, not in terrorism. Besides, she is living in India where her citizens have every right to choose the profession they like. If there is someone who has right to discourage her from singing, then it is her parents, not you, me or mullahs.

Fatwa should be the matter of concern for practicing muslims only.Film actors or pop singers or musicians have nothing to do with islam. Thats why our beloved prophet told in hadees that the time will come where most haram things like adultry gambling music ect considered halal which a sign of aakirah

Supreme court already declared issuing Fatwas are illegal in India. India is a democratic country and let her do whatever she want. If singing is a sin as per the religion, then she and her parents will look at this. Clerics or organizations have no business there. Why this kind of isolated issues becoming national or international issues now a days????

Peter bhai(or whoever u r) .... Aap toh guma fhira ke sanghi per galti nikalte ho.

Now the topic is Fatwa on Afrin.... Hai himmat toh talk about that. Here the girls are reaching moons and these clerics purana record bhaja rahe hai.

All the sanghis, Clerics and radicals are taking India backwards. One thing for sure, Jo bhi purane rules hai, Its not 100% correct and Jo bhi Naya hai Its not 100% incorrect . Pehle ke zamane mein TV, Mobile, Tab sab nahi tah. Per everything is changing. So you need to go by current Trends with keeping Due respect to our culture & tradition.

If clerics r so much concerned, then 1st Ban all the evil practice.

    Flavian, you are right

Mohammad Rafi has sung numerous bhajans . Sahir Ludiyanvi has written some of the best bhajans. Shakeel Badyuni wrote some excellent bhajans. Javed Aktar written some beautiful lyrics, Rani Malik , music director Naushad, Anu Malik, Nadeem, Sameer Anjan, list is so long. These clerics should pass fatwa on them also.

In hindi film industry most Muslim women film stars like Hindu stars wear half naked clothes, take drinks, smokes and enjoy parties late night issue Fatwa against them.

I dont agree with Fatwa by Clerics for everything. Why are they wasting time and bringing shame to Islam and Sharia. They should not go after every one. Let individual do whatever he or she likes. The clerics can only advise her or him and should not and cannot force him or her. Islam is against compelling any one to practice it by force. May be this issue is created by few anti islamists to defame the religion. Clerics should work for the betterment of Muslims and not to do harm to the religion. Clerics should also not indulge in politics.

These have begun to behave like Jokers. Instead of making non-muslims understand the religion better, they are distorting the religion by issuing Fatwas which themselves are unable to defend. Each Cleric all over the world has his own version of the Koran and Sharia Laws. In India it also differs from N to S and East to West. Who is Right ?? and What is Right ??
