US: Dr Austin Prabhu chosen for Forest Park diversity commission

Media Release

US, Mar 11: Forest Park mayor Anthony Calderon named Dr Austin Prabhu for newly established Diversity Commission of Forest Park.

Commission meets on the second Thursday of the month at 7.00 pm. It is a nine member team with a term of three years.

Established in 2016, the diversity commission will be a resource for experience and information on diversity issues and serve in an advisory capacity to the mayor and village council. They will help to enrich social and intellectual life of all residents through educational and social programmes. They will facilitate awareness and promote understanding and acceptance of all people, especially those who have different racial, religious and ethnic backgrounds, sexual preferences, physical limitations, gender, educational and economic levels. The commission may invite and enlist the cooperation of racial, religious and ethnic groups, community organizations, fraternal and benevolent societies, veteran’s organizations, professional and technical organizations and other groups to assist in their mission.

Commissions, boards and committees play various important roles in village administration. Several are mandated by state statute and can exercise their powers without specific authorization from the village council while others are used in advisory roles to help formulate policies and to recommend actions. All members of the commissions, boards and committees are residents of the community acting in a volunteer capacity and are appointed by the village council, generally for a fixed term.
