Bengaluru: Muslim girl trolled for singing devotional song, Khader backs her

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Mar 8: A Muslim girl from Sagar, Shivamogga has been the victim of a troll attack on social media for choosing to sing a Hindu devotional song in a singing reality show on a Kannada entertainment channel.

The 22-year-old girl, Suhana Syed, received flak from a Facebook page called 'Mangalore Muslims' for singing the devotional song, and for saying on the show that she hoped hidden talents in her community would take inspiration from her and come forward.

Dressed in burkha and hijab, Suhana's rendition of the devotional song received much applause from the studio audience and the judges, one of whom lauded her for fostering Hindu-Muslim unity through the song.

But her performance did not go down well with a section of the online community. The Facebook post, which has since been deleted, said, "Suhana you have tarnished the Muslim community by singing in front of men. Do not feel that you have achieved a great feat; people who learn to recite Quran in 6 months have achieved more. Your parents have encouraged you to show your beauty to other men, they will not go to heaven because of you. Please give up the pardah that you are wearing as you don't respect it." The page also slammed her for 'insulting' Islam through her words and cautioned that she would have to face God's wrath.

Meanwhile, several persons have come out in support of Suhana. Food and civil supplies minister U T Khader warned that anyone threatening Suhana would be dealt with stringently. "We will take strong action against anyone who threatens Suhana. Action is already being taken under the cyber crime law against the person who posted against her on Facebook. Only 1 percent is against her, the rest 99 percent are with Suhana," Khader said.

Mysuru MP Pratap Simha too came out in support of her, and taking a jibe at intellectuals, he questioned why they were silent when intolerance was being shown at Suhana from members of her own community. He also assured that she would be given protection to ensure that she is able to continue singing.

The Facebook page Mangalore Muslims, responding to Khader's statement, has denied that anyone on its page had threatened Suhana. "We did not threaten Suhana. We opposed her for saying false things about Islam and Muslim women. We have every right to do so, and it is our duty too," the page stated.

I have been hearing India is a developing country since i was a kid. But its quite a sad thing that till date neither the words "India is a developing country" has changed nor Indians have changed when it comes to religion. Man made religion, classified it into sub religion, further subdivided it.
At the end he is the creator and he himself is the destroyer without any base.
Why not see in a human way instead of seeing it in a religious way? I girl sings a devotional song which is her talent. Its a good thing which needs to be appreciated, rather jobless people are on top of their toes to fight against different religions. Why all this?
Suhana, we support you with full fledged blessings and wishing you all the best for your future.
BE AN INDIAN. AND JUST NOT IN INDIA FOR NAMESAKE.

Talents should be used to entertain others and praise God who is one with different names. If we had different God for different religions, there would be a big fight between them for supremacy. If the universe is in favor of living things, it is because the creator is one.

As expected he will not respond. Nobody will object if minister support shah rukh or salmaan or javed akthar or ar rahmaan or zeenath aman. But in clarity music is strictly prohibited in islam as per prophet {pbuh} instruction in hadees. In our india we as practicing muslims face the challenge of by force following the life style of non islamic culture. Its a test for the eemaan . Nobody should personally target suhana. its wrong. If any stage artist or musician or film actor think that they are capable to decide whats wrong and right even crossing the limits of almighty then nobody will bother. from net as is-
“Madhuban mein ..." was written by Shakeel Badayuni, a Muslim. Composed by Naushad, a Muslim. Sung by Rafi and picturised on Dilip Kumar, both Muslims. Indeed, Music has no religion. In fact, “Man Tarpat Hari Darshan ko Aaj” too had the magical trio, Naushad, Shakeel Badayuni and Rafi and for the recording of this Krishna Bhajan, all musicians were asked to come in proper respectful attire and the atmosphere of a Hindu Temple was created with the producer distributing Prasad and sweets and everyone saying Krishna Krishna. Respect.

The so called Mangalore Muslims should be aware that we are living in India, not in any Mid-East Countries. Why crucify her for just singing a devotional song? She took a part in a competition and be proud of her for such a wonderful performance. Why these “custodians” of Islam think that she showed her beauty to men and sang in front of them? It’s a singing competition and the judges and audience are comprised of men and women. If they think that her parents will go to hell just for allowing her to sing, can they tell us who is going to heaven in their opinion? I wonder if the guys who troll this gifted girl have the guts to troll the terrorists. She is not the first Muslim to sing devotional songs. Do they know how many songs the great Mohd. So called Peace and tolerance followers will silently support the trolls by not commenting positive or standing by this girl , as deep inside even they are not happy with her, buy can't express it openly so that the tolerance mask they wear and talk about womens rights will be exposed otherwise proving their hypocricy.

Let she sing whichever song she likes it doesn't matter, that's her personal. But if she has justified it for to ridicule Islam for publicity then she must be shamed.

If you have a social account everyone will get trolled...Everything is fine unless death or rape threats are issued...I don't think anyone issued such threat... As a grown up lady she knows what is right and what is wrong....It is left to her what to follow ...

In this country if you are a majority community ridiculing a person for her belief you can get away easily this is common in social media ,no media or libs have ever made it a news...being a Muslim you should be wary while commenting on social media or else libs along with s.nghis and nationalist media will hound you ... which is their favourite passtime.....
bottomline is being a s.nghi you can hound people for their faith in social media...it is gauranteed under FOE

Why this so called under takers of religion, can not catch their men marrying under aged minors and selling small girls. Shame on them to troll such a brave girl who has shown her exemplary talent. We need many girls come forward and participate in such shows and show the world and not lag behind. Do not bring Govt. or politics in this issue. Jai Hind

Dressed very modestly, this girl showed that her voice is beautiful. It is in the competition and no religious color should be attached to it. In this 21st century, for exams, passport and visas, the photos of everyone is needed, then what a big deal showing her face just for a while, and BTW, can anyone sing properly with covering the face ? One of the first playback singers in Hindi films was Shamshad Begum and this girl also has such voice.

In addition to this, top Hindu singers like Kavitha Krishnamurthy, Boopinder Singh, Krishna Kalle have sung Christian devotional songs composed by Dr. Fr. Charles Vas S.V.D., a singing visionary and a dancing missionary.

How sad.It will never change in this community.Girls will be behind their four walls wearing same attire (it is ok)but the attitude to comeout and something new to do of their choice like sing ,or acting in films(OH God)will remain for them only a dream.Have to fear the strong opposition of men even taking serious action,in name of religion,or to say tosave the honour of family.sometimes from family members.Hope this girl will survive because of her bold step.

    @ Rita, Germany
Women will never be allowed to come out of four walls as long as there are hardened fanatics in the community. That is why the Modi Govt. is striving to introduce uniform civil code which will be a legal boon to these women. And unfortunately is it is being opposed by men in the community. There was no opposition to renowned female singers like Shamshad Begum and Noor Jahan who lived in the early part of 20th century, but a young talented girl is being opposed in this ultra modern age. Are we really moving forward? Or is it due to Taliban and ISIS influence??

Some idiots don't realise difference between music and religion. They have forgotten many famous muslim singers have sung popular hindu religious songs in the past. These people should get rid of their frog in the well mentality and come out of the well and get on with life.

"Muslim" is an Arabic word meaning "one who submits (to God)".
Singing may be her personal interest. As long as her parents don't object she has the right to do whatever within the purview of Islam.
Hindi film lyrics have close links to Urdu poetry and the films celebrate relentlessly the ghazal and the qawwali. Muslims are taken to be extremely fond of poetry, and as sensitive poets and singers, incorporate songs into the film in a relaxed and appropriate manner. The hero is a poet in Mere Mehboob, and a qawwal in Barsaat ki raat (1960), where he performs alongside female qawwals in perhaps the most famous qawwali of the Indian cinema, ‘Na to caravan’. In Amar, Akbar, Antony (1977), the Muslim brother is a qawwal, named after a great Urdu poet, Akbar Allahabadi. Akbar’s qawwali, ‘Parda hai parda’, is about getting his beloved, sitting in the front row with her father, to remove her veil, even though he knows she does not wear a veil in the hospital where she works as a doctor. In Sufi-themed movies, where the lead character is not a Muslim, such as Dil se (1998) and Rockstar (2012) the film score still draws on these traditions. So the lyrics of Dil se’s ‘Chaiya chaiya’ are adapted from Bulleh Shah, a sixteenth-century Punjabi Sufi, and Rockstar has a qawwali praising Nizamuddin of Delhi.
This lady is smart to choose Hindu devotional song to get more attention from judges and audience. If she has chosen any other song she is just like another contestant. Contestant ability should not be judged on religion.

Identity can't be judged by his/her attire but true submission to the Almighty in Islam.
    Jai Hind

This lady has right choose her song.Nobody will bother about that. But when a muslim lady goes to the college wearing same burka the same supporters of suhana maximum sanghi elements will oppose it like it happening in bhatkal. So minister kadar will never speak for them but he is there to support a reality show participant. The chaddi media channels like public tv yesterday tried maximum to justify music as islamically legal. But when relegious leader like shafi sahadi answered clearely saying that music or singing in public stage is strictly prohibited in islam the TV anchor turned away. We as practicing believer will always get peace with reciting the verses of quran. NOT BY ANY IDOL WORSHIP SONG OR DANCE OR STAGE APPRECIATION.
