Bengaluru: Regional parties lack strength to stop BJP's growth - Deve Gowda

Bengaluru, Mar 8 (PTI): Former prime minister and JDS chief H D Deve Gowda today said regional parties do not have the strength to stop BJP's political growth as they lack unity.

He also said if BJP manages to win Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections on its own, the party will next focus on southern India, starting from Karnataka. "The point is today, what next? There is no oppositionin Parliament, Congress is not a recognised opposition party... The political situation in the country today is- BJP is strongly progressing," he told reporters here.

"If at all on March 11 BJP comes to power on its own (in Uttar Pradesh), the regional parties as of today don't have the strength to stop BJP," Gowda said. "I don't know what willhappen in the future; at present there is no unity amongregional parties," he said.

Gowda was interacting with mediapersons after receiving the Press Club of Bangalore's 'Man of the Year' award here. He said BJP has already made some headway in Kerala and also increased their vote share in Tamil Nadu.

"In Karnataka, which they say is their gateway for the south, the gate isslightly shut right now. They will use their full force to open it completely," Gowda said.

"Their entire focus will turn towards Karnataka, to come to power once again in the state," he added. Assembly polls in Karnataka are likely to take place in early 2018. Gowda said BJP is a strong party with 282 seats in the Lok Sabha and it was in a position where none could try to destabilise it.

"The role of a regional party is in a difficultsituation. To what extent they will try to rise to the occasion to protect democratic system is to be seen," he said.

Gowda said Narendra Modi was first projected forthe Prime Minister's post by "corporate houses and both RSS and BJP only consented to it at the later stages".

BJP is today run only by "twinbrothers" - Prime Minister Modi and Party President Amit Shah - and others do not have any role there, he claimed.

Regional parties are mashrooming on their own idialogies and agenda. First try to stand united against common foe and talk about challenging BJP. We do not need so many useless regional parties who survive to show their popularity than in the interest of public cause. Dying flame never brightens.

it's clearly called by DG that irrespective whether nation is growing or not.... they want to stop BJP's growth. It's evident that BJP with Modi's leadership is doing the best to the country and nothing can stop them now ... accepted by DG and it's for all the parties now.
Let BJP rule the country ... you all support them... you will also survive and nation will develop and grow.

Nothing is permanent in war and politics.
Those who do not struggle or toil hard can not sustain their past glory for long goes true to INC and some other regional parties.
Local politics has international bearings, internationals politics has local bearings. Surely Future is unpredictable. Every path meets its end, it's a matter of time.

Regional parties like opportunist Deve Gowda's JDS with no principles may lack strength to stop BJP's growth but the Indian political scene shows that principled political parties like AAP have proved that BJP can be stopped.

When BJP was formed the oldest party Congress branded it as communal party.....years passed by and off late people started understanding the misdeeds of the Nehruviam dynasty leaders which sowed the seeds of communalism. It also succeeded for sometime that freedom struggle was only by Nehru Gandhi and true patriots like Subhash Chandra Bose,Lal Bahadur Sastri were cornered as irrelevents.Congress failed to fool te people all the time and so the present influx into BJP......Sonia and her coterie must be a worried lot now.....
Modiji's Chakravyooha theory started working .........

A frank & upfront admission of the BJP's growth story by the former PM of India Deve Gowda.
A grass root politician, Gowdru has correctly read the pulse of the political scenario in the country.
For all the Modi haters on this forum, this article on DW is a 'in the face reality check' substantiated by the ex CM of the state. He clearly points to the rising of the saffron party in South, especially naming K'Nataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Burnol, antacids and surgeries suggested to frustrated readers who cannot digest this.
