Udupi: J P Hegde joins BJP in presence of party leaders in Bengaluru

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (PS/EP)

Udupi, Mar 8: As expected, former MP Jayaprakash Hegde finally joined BJP in a ceremony held in Bengaluru on Wednesday March 8.

He was welcomed to the BJP party office in Bengaluru by Karkala MLA and chief whip of the opposition Sunil Kumar.

With a year to go for the state Assembly elections, transitions have already begun in many political parties. Discussions within the political circles of coastal Karnataka were heard about Jayaprakash Hegde joining BJP and vice versa from the last one year. Putting all speculations to rest, Hegde finally joined BJP in its Bengaluru office in the presence of union ministers and state leaders like B S Yeddyurappa, Jagadish Shettar and R Ashok.

The veteran politician is the man who, as a Congressman, had destroyed the fortress of a strong BJP in coastal Karnataka. When it was being said that Congress days were over, Hegde rose to the occasion and gave it a new lease of life in coastal Karnataka. Hegde had achieved tremendous success when he contested elections in the position vacated by the then chief minister Sadananda Gowda.

Hegde who had won elections as a Janata Dal candidate and as an independent, was expelled by the Congress for contesting against the party’s official candidate in the Legislative Council polls from Dakshina Kannada-Udupi in 2015. It is said that he joined BJP to defeat the Congress.

While some sources say that Hegde will contest elections from Byndoor Assembly constituency, it is being also said that he will be a candidate from Udupi–Chikkmagaluru constituency in the next Lok Sabha elections.

Apart from Hegde, Meghanath Shetty, who was president of Moodbidri Congress block, also joined BJP.

Party leaders from Udupi like former MLA Raghupati Bhat, MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary, Udupi district BJP president Mattar Ratnakar Hegde, Yashpal Suvarna and others were present.

A BJP convention will be organized in Udupi on March 18, during which followers of J P Hegde from all over the coastal region, as well as those expelled from other parties, are expected to join BJP in the presence of the party's state leaders.

    J. P. Hegde was never been to JDS. He was in Janatha Dal. After It split into Two, he became independent and twice in Brahmavar. He did not left congress he was removed from congress for his nomination to MLC. For one year he remained indoor dent and now he joined BJP. I don't find anything wrong from him. Rather I will blame congress for their foolishness.

Its really sad to see Mr. J.P. Hegde crossing over to BJP. we all had a very high respect for his uncompromised stand on the secular values of this country. If people like JP can switchover to BJP just for the sake of power, I don't know whom to trust. SM Krishna enjoyed all benefits of power from Congress, be it Chief Minister or central minister or governor, at the dying age he cossed over to the BJP against whom he fought all over his life.

If expelled leaders want to join bjp it is their personal wish and right. We cannot say that congress is pure party like before. It has got corrupted where certain people dont let other party members grow hence they play politics and expel them or make them resign.

We had JP of yesteryear and JP of current era. What a striking difference when it comes for ethics and principle's. In political career, when you choose a party, it's to do with your conscious for choosing a side that advocates our constitution. I do not say that Congress has complete allegiance to our secular principled Indian constitution, but comparing to divisive policy of incumbent government which doesn't care about minorities name them Christians, Dalit, Aadivaasis or Muslims, decision taken by current JP is disheartening.

These politicians have no scruples. Till recently they enjoyed with the Congress party, got elected, enjoyed Parliamentary benefits incl. pension etc. Suddenly they jump to another party. The same with S.M.Krishna who enjoyed all benefits at tax payers cost. He even saw that his son in law made use of his position. This is how politicians work. Once they get elected they do not care for their voters. They act like "kings".

When BJP ruled from 2006-2007 and 2008-2013 we witnessed corruption, law & order breakdown and a lot of other problems.

PM Modi is blaming 70 years past of the Congress ruling for the present Indians dire situation.

Most of the entire north east Congress is now become BJP through covert 'operation kamala'. In Karnataka BJP which has high stakes in corrupt leader jailed for mining kickbacks and denotification is again made party president.

As bail from jail Gali Janardhan reddy of Bellary republic is out 'operation kamala' is once again is taking momentum.

Mr.Hegde due to his political greed is now once again changed his loyalty by joining BJP. Secular Hedge is now became official part of communal BJP.

How long people will trust someone who changes party more than his clothes. Is BJP is dearth of good leaders in the party which needs only 'Congress' leaders once they described them as corrupt?

If we compare corrupt Yeddi's CMgiri with SM Krishna's CMgiri, definitely SM Krishna is far ahead. Also, BJP leaders have started praising Krishna saying "he has done lot of developments" (after Krishna shown interested to join BJP, earlier they were calling him chor!). So, SM Krishna deserves to be CM again under BJP rule...

Also, JP has good repute among all religions & considered honest politician. Hence, BJP should nominate him for Dy CM post prior to election, so that they can pull some votes for the party.

JPH knows, whatever the wave in next general election Shobha Karandlaje is not going to win or get the party ticket. That's why he took this smart decision. All the commentators who are writing comments against JPH are well aware that in Indian politics there is no ethic, shame, ideology..
