Bengaluru police get custody of notorious ATM attacker

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Mar 7: The man who had remained elusive after brutally attacking a Corporation Bank's woman staffer inside an ATM in the city during November 2013 in spite of best efforts put forth by the city police to trace him, has finally been handed over to the custody of city police.

The police, who had obtained body warrant from a local court for getting custody of the accused, identified as Madhukar Reddy, took his custody from Kadapa district prison in Andhra Pradesh. They brought him to the city and subjected him to medical examination in Victoria Hospital.

Corporation Bank employee, Jyoti Uday, whose duty hours began early in the morning, had visited an ATM of her bank during November 2013 to draw money when an intruder armed with sickle and other things had launched deadly attack on her after she refused to part with her belongings including money when he demanded for the same. Although the city police had done everything in their command to trace the culprit, their efforts had failed.

He had been arrested in connection with certain murder and robbery cases in Andhra Pradesh. During his interrogation by Andhra police, he had confessed to have attacked a woman inside an ATM in the city. Based on this information, the police have obtained his custody. Karnataka police had to go through long drawn process to get his custody as Andhra Pradesh police insisted on completion of investigation pertaining to cases which had happened in their state before he could be handed over.

A big sense of relief for namma Karnataka State Police, since they were not successful in nabbing Madhukar Reddy, in spite of their vigorous efforts.

Hope he is jointly hammered by police of both the states, which would be a (deterrent) lesson to all budding as well as hardened criminals who would like to indulge in such type of crimes. The arm of the law is certainly long enough, but their methods and equipments definitely need improvement/fine-tuning. If not, many criminals could be successful in escaping scot-free after committing heinous crimes.
