Udupi, Feb 17: ‘Namma Angadi', a three day CSR initiative of Manipal University, which hosts artisans of and around the district by the students of the university, will be held at its School of Communication on Friday, March 3. It will continue upto March 5.

"'Namma Angadi' is being organized by the postgraduate students of Event Management and Planning, in association with Namma Bhoomi and the Concerned for Working Children at School of Communication, Manipal University. The event acts as a platform for regional craftsmen to sell their handmade products to survive against the stiff competition imposed by commercial brands," said Nandini Laxmikanta, director and professor of SOC, Manipal addressing media at the Udupi press club on Monday, February 27.

"Traditional handmade and eco-friendly goods manufactured by the artisans of Namma Bhoomi will be sold at the three-day exhibition. SOC has had a consistent and fruitful association with Namma Bhoomi and CWC over the years. Last year, they sold Rs 18 lacs worth of products and 30,000 people have visited here. The SOC is trying its best to raise sales this year," Nandini further added.

Student Richa Srivastava said, "Namma Angadi 2017 will host a plethora of organic products ranging from apparels, furnishings, bed linen, home decorative, accessories, food items and much more, all under one roof at School of Communication. Every year the event sees a footfall of more than 15000 people of a varied age group, comprised of residents hailing from Mangaluru, Bangaluru, Karkala, Udupi and Manipal."

The premise will be adorned by the traditional chappara (a ceremonial tent shelter made of coconut leaves), among other ornaments designed by the students using organic materials. The money raised is donated for training children in vocational arts."

Padmakumar K, HOD of Corporate Communication, SOC said, "As this programme is a part of academic study, students will get a hand-on experience of event management. It will stimulate students to do something good for the society."

"Director of 'Artist', Vanita Pai, will be the chief guest. She will inaugurate the session at 9.30 am, and will be hosted with unparalleled pomp and splendour, to ensure that the very cause they seek to promote reaches the minds of its consumers," said Snehadipta Pyne, a student of SOC.
