Chamarajanagar, Feb 25: Relating to the murder of a newly-married lady, Divya, at Dhanagere village in Kollegal taluk in the district, her husband, Venkatesh Murthy, and his three brothers stand arrested.

Divya from Dhanagere had married Venkatesh Murthy from Nagavalli, who works as police constable at Rajarajeshwarinagara police station at Bengaluru. As dowry, two lac rupees by way of cheque, 60 grams gold ornaments, Rs 20,000 worth of wrist watch and clothes were given during the marriage.

After the marriage, Venkatesh had visited the house of his father-in-law and pressurized the family for payment of Rs 50,000 in the form of additional dowry. Frustrated at the turning down of his demand, he allegedly led Divya on Wednesday February 22 to the farmhouse and pushed her into a well there.

Elder brother of Divya, Siddaraju, had filed a complaint at the rural police station here, alleging that Venkatesh Murthy had killed his sister with the support of elder brother, Mahadeva Shetti, and younger brothers, Nagaswamy and Raghu, for dowry. The police have arrested all four, after which the court remanded them to judicial custody.

Such shameless people deserve to die rather than living in jail. Its better for a man to die than asking money from his wife/inlaws. Even their parents should be punished for not showing their children right moral/ethical values.May her soul rest in peace.

Also,it is as I thought in the beginning.that too from own husband and brothers.what a shame.over that husband is a police constable.why these men think wife /girl is a milking cow ,demand more money after marraige? They marry and they should lookafter their wife ,not from her parents demand, otherwise they shouldnt marry when they cant meet the ends.Heavy punishment should be given to him and brothers.otherwise push them too in the same well.Poor divya, couldnt enjoy her married life .RIP.
