6,000 ultra-rich people left India for other countries in 2016: Report

New Delhi, Feb 23 (PTI): India is among the top five countries globally which saw the maximum number of millionaire outflows with as many as 6,000 ultra-rich people shifting overseas in 2016, 50 per cent more than the previous year.

According to a report by New World Wealth, around 6,000 uber-rich Indians have changed their domicile in 2016, while in 2015 as many as 4,000 millionaires had shifted base. The total wealth held in the country amounts to $6.2 trillion (as of December 2016) and the country is home to 264,000 millionaires and 95 billionaires in total.

"Over the next decade, India is expected to benefit from strong growth in the local financial services, IT, real estate, healthcare and media sectors. In particular, the local hospital services and health insurance sectors are expected to grow strongly. Hyderabad, Pune and Bangalore are expected to lead the pack in terms of wealth growth," the report said. Meanwhile, global wealth migration is also accelerating as around 82,000 ultra rich people shifted overseas in 2016, compared to 64,000 in 2015.

Millionaires or High Net Worth Individuals (HNWIs) refer to individuals with net assets of $1 million or more.

According to the report, France saw the maximum outflow of millionaires, with as many as 12,000 super rich leaving the country. Some of the other countries that witnessed significant ouflow of millionaires include China (9,000), Brazil (8,000) and Turkey (6,000). France is heavily impacted by rising religious tensions between Christians and Muslims, especially in urban areas, the report said.

"We expect that millionaire migration away from France will accelerate over the next decade as these tensions escalate," it added.

The report further noted that other European countries where religious tensions are starting to emerge such as Belgium, Germany, Austria, the UK, Holland and Sweden will also be negatively affected in the near future.

Meanwhile, in terms of millionaire inflows, Australia topped the chart as it saw as many as 11,000 uber rich people shifting base there, followed by the US (10,000) and Canada (8,000) in the second and third place respectively.

The reasons behind HNWIs preferring Australia to the US and the UK is that Australia has one of the best healthcare systems in the world and its location makes it a good base for doing business in emerging Asian countries such as China, Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore, Vietnam and India.

Moreover, Australia is relatively immune to the turmoil in the Middle East and the related refugee crisis in Europe and it has lower inheritance taxes than the US and much lower inheritance taxes than the UK. Other countries that experienced large inflows of HNWIs in 2016 include Canada, UAE, New Zealand and Israel.

Ultra-rich people leaving India for other countries have different reasons that cannot be easily explained. Each one has a choice, and especially when one's financial status is sound, one can easily decide what he or she wants at any time. One thing is certain, that anyone trying to leave India for other countries always tries to leave his or her heart behind, because they want their legacies to be safely treasured in India while they are physically obliged to move abroad to the place of their choice.

Our personal observation allows us to believe that whoever leaves India for other countries will always succeed wherever he or she moves. Majority of the Indians, specially the wealthy ones are always well educated and their education enables them to succeed wherever they go and whatever they do. A well educated individual from India is always surrounded by better educated family generation and that trump card helps them to multiply their richness regardless whether they are in Australia or U.S.A., or Canada or England.

An Indian with richness migrating to a foreign country is never a "brain drain" to his or her "Maathra Bhoomy". In fact he or she will always remain a "Brain Gain" to India because he or she will always help India in every conceivable way because of the close family ties that he or she leaves behind. They go abroad with their wealth and as they multiply their richness they always think of India and help India much more than ever before. An Indian, whether he is a Hindu, Moslem or Christian will always remain patriotic whereever he goes.

We therefore strongly recommend ultra-rich Indians move abroad so that they can spread their wings of fortune much wider and flourish their wealth much stronger so that they can extend their hand of help to India much broader than ever before. Jai Hind.

    Mr.Max
Indian BJP Leaders want Hindu population to remain High. Most of the rich in India are Hindus and out flow of Rich Hindu will drain our Hindu population, Degrade our Hindu culture and age old tradition like expensive weddings, Child marriage, Dowry etc,. Rich people will take all new Rupee notes and our new ATM will become empty and our line on to collect new notes at the Bank will become long. So the our Nationalistic BJP Government will send Moral police, RSS, Rama Sena, HJV etc to International Airports & Curse terminals to prevent the out flow of Rich Indian Hindus and our new notes.

Rich people will shift to countries where their wealth and property will be secure. Arbitrary economic decisions like demonetization scares away rich people. Rich people are moving to Switzerland, Britain, US, Canada and Singapore because they feel these countries offer greater safety and security for their assets.

Like the Global Financial Institute (run by a Bengali gentleman in USA), the New World Wealth seems to be yet another one man "research institute".

On its website, it says it is based in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Other than that, there is absolutely no information on the organisation, its people, research and investigation methods, peer reviews to validate their research, etc. Absolutely nothing.

So, all that I conclude after visiting their website is that the information is completely unreliable, with only the purpose of sending paid articles to the media around the world.

So long as I am concerned, this is yet another of the mushrooming Fake News marketers.

You live only one life. Utilise and experience it to the fullest.

Successful people prefer peace of mind, safety, better health, social security and education for their children. They prefer places on earth where they can be productive and innovative. As long the country in which they live fails to provide these, successful people will surely look for greener postures. Because you pay taxes from your hard earned money. But, what you get in return in few countries ?

This will increase going forward not only in India but all other countries as long as people travel to different countries and see the better lifestyle they enjoy. There is migration for skilled people, investors etc. But, those who doesn't have both have no option.

Anand, you are correct. The best country in the world where even a month old baby gets raped, every road in every city is a public garbage bin. People bite the hand that feeds, medical treatment is based on money power, politicians, film industry and cricketers are treated like Gods. Chalta hai attitude. Corruption to the core. People defecate openly on railway tracks and on road side. You arrive and land in Bombay airport only after flying over one of the worst hutment colony anywhere in the world...... and the achievements goes on and finally we please God by offering tons of gold ornaments so that you are forgiven for looting India and making money. Hamara Ache din!

Our Ancient Hindu culture is at risk. All the rich Hindus are going away to Beef eating countries. Government should freeze the Bank account of all rich people and cancel the passport with new Law from the parliament. presently BJP has majority in the parliament So, it is the time to bring new Law to prevent the out flow of our grate old culture and rich Hindu people.

BJP should immediately with out delay deploy All RSS, Rama Sena, Bajaranga Dala, Shiva Sena members at International Airports and Cruse Ship terminals to Check/prevent the out flow of Hindus and Indian new notes to Beef eating countries. exodus of Hindus from India will bring Hindu population down and distroy our age old Hindu culture. Taking away new notes from India will make ATM empty and make us to wait in line for cash so under any cost we should prevent the out flow of Indians to Beef eating countries.
