Udupi, Feb 23: Brahmavar fire brigade in a successive operation with the help of a snake expert Gururaj Sanil have rescued two pythons that had fallen into a deserted dry well at Havanje, on Wednesday February 22.

The snakes were found in the 20 feet deep well belonging to Jayalaxmi Shetty in Uppooru, Havanje.

Nagaraj, local and social activist Nithyananda Olakadu had sought the help of Brahmavar fire brigade and snake expert Gururaj Sanil to rescue the male and female snakes.

Forest department staff assisted in the operation. Though one snake was outside, the other was hiding in the burrow making the operation difficult. Pythons can live without food for two years but not without water. The snakes were tired without water. Forest department is preparing to leave them in the hills where there is water.

As December to June is the mating period of snakes, they can be spotted often. As the female snake lost balance and fell into the well, the male snake also went after it.

The snakes eat frogs. But there was not even water in the well. They would have died within two months under the present conditions. As the people believed that snakes come out from the well by themselves, nobody had been informed about them. The snake expert who has rescued several snakes, has also been instrumental in the rescue of
these pythons.
