Beltangady, Feb 22: In a major crackdown on illegal immigrants, Bantwal DySP Ravish along with Venur police on Wednesday February 22 arrested 14 Bangladeshi nationals who had no official documentation or permit.
They were arrested from an under-construction building at Kashipatna in Venur here. The Bangladeshis had been working as labourers in the building.
The arrested are Mohammed Jahangir (26), Abdul Hakeem (25), Mohammed Alangir (27), Abdul Halim (19), M D Mohammed Azeezal (19), M D Babu (20), Zoharul Islam (24), Mohammed Zohidul Islam (30), Mohammed Iqbal Ali (19), Mohammed Suhail Rana (29), Zoharulla Islam (35), Mohammed Suman Ali (24), Mohammed Momin (20) and Mohammed Fullal (19). All of them from Rajshahi district in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Moreover, Nisar Mohammed of Moodbidri has also been taken into custody for giving shelter and employment to the arrested Bangladeshis.
Police said that the Bangladeshis had gained entry into the country through some means and had been residing here illegally.
A case has been registered and they have been booked under the Foreigners Act, 1946. They have also been produced in the court.
Also, a special police team has been formed in the district to crack down on illegal immigrants. More arrests are likely in the coming days and strict action would be taken against such immigrants as well as those who give them shelter, SP Borase has said.
