Bhatkal: False rumours against Rubella vaccine intensify – Doctors taken to task

Bhatkal, Feb 20: The false rumours spread against Rubella vaccination in the taluk reached serious proportions. Miscreants who came to vaccination campaign centre at Shams school on Sunday, February 19 tried to assault doctors, teachers and nurses who were present there.

The miscreants alleged that the campaign is the conspiracy by RSS and the union government to control Muslim population and asked Muslims not to let the medical staff to administer the vaccination.

Those who brought children for vaccination became anxious. Hundreds of parents went back home out of fear. Municipal council president Sadiq Matta, Inayithulla Shabandri, Imthiaz Udyavar, Nisar Rukmuddin and others tried to dilute the situation, but failed.

Doctors and nurses, who got disappointed with the behaviour of the miscreants, cancelled the campaign and went back. As Tahasildar V N Badkar reached the place, the miscreants expressed their anguish again.

Subsequently police officials arrived and conducted investigations.

The rumours over mobile phones in Bhatkal against the vaccinations started in the country on February 7 have raised suspicions. News such as adverse effects on children and death are being spread. Though there are no such incidents in the country, the propaganda in Bhatkal has not stopped.

Some people said that multinational companies who have alternative vaccines have indulged in conspiracy. Meanwhile some fanatics have created fear among Muslims causing problems for communal harmony.

Realizing the gravity of the situation, Tahasildar held a meeting of leaders of minority institutions. He has warned of strict action against the guilty if the situation recurs.

GM Hegde, there is a notion that God has created us & he will protect so taking vaccine is against god will..this belief is the main cause, not the lack of awarness..if we recollect the report on missing Kerala youths who believed to be recruited by IS#S , there is a MBBS student (she is converted from christianity), married and was pregnant, lately stopped going to Doctor clinic for routine check up..when her mother confronted her she said God will take care & wont go to Doctor anymore !!..she is MBBS student!!

Whatever but the campaign was illmanaged. It is wrong to carry out any medical campaigns in schools without the presence of parents beside their children. And we know the quality of docs and nurses today. To add to that we have Ayurvedic docs doing the duty of MBBS in govt. hospitals administering English meds of which they have no knowledge of. And last but none the least who is going to verify the quality of syringes and meds and expiry dates.

I think the govt. and school managements and district health authorities have failed to take parents into confidence. They could have started information campaign for parents before this and kept the vaccinstion on the day of parents teachers meeting when parents would be present with their children.

When superstar Amitabh Bachchan advertises on Polio why can’t Shah Rukh or Amir Khan come to the scene and give proper advice on Rubella vaccines instead of making senseless statements on tolerance and intolerance?

If we remember many years back in U P the same rumors were spread against Polio Drops, as a result many kids got them, later Amitabh Bachan was brought in to spread awareness through TV ads & India was able to declare itself Polio Free.
The present vaccine is limited to Measles & Rubella while those who had given to their kids MMR in private facilities. They should know their kids have had them when they are 9 month old as well as 15 months or so. If nothing had happened then nothing will happen now as well.
In our places doctors came to school way before the day of vaccination & had a meeting with parents answering the questions & cleared all the doubts & questions parents had.
Now they had inoculated on 13th & all are fine. Some parents did come & took care at the time of inoculation .
This vaccine is produced in India by The Serum Institute of India Pvt. Ltd. in Pune, can log in by this link http://www.seruminstitute.com/content/about_us.htm

@Anil MP,the cause is these are not educated.Thatswhy first thing is educate children, educate the citizens ,try to make advertize ments in dailys, radios or other medias.Even in Panchayats, schools parents of children be called once in half year, and inform them about health care. There are certain people who think ,(even talk open some religious heads)that their population is going down. such situation makes one speachless.

really amazing!! this vaccine is applicable for all not only for muslim community. if it is a RSS or central govt hidden agenda then what about other community population bcoz they also participated in this program. some people may want to create tension in the society but we should be careful & should not give a chance to them.

they are thinking about the population. the community leaders should think about the present society & challenges. work together for the improvement of the community & guide them instead of debate on population.
