Feyenoord register ninth consecutive win

The Hague, Feb 20 (IANS): Dutch football league leaders Feyenoord booked their ninth Eredivisie win in a row with a 1-0 verdict over ADO Den Haag to maintain a five-point margin with Ajax Amsterdam.

One week before the clash with reigning champions PSV Eindhoven in Rotterdam, Feyenoord were far from impressive at the ADO Den Haag here on Sunday evening. Karim El Ahmadi broke the deadlock for Feyenoord with a strike in the 62nd minute, reports Xinhua news agency.

Also on Sunday, Ajax recorded a narrow victory as well, defeating SBV Vitesse 1-0 in Arnhem. Ajax captain Davy Klaassen found the winner in the 26th minute off a cross by Amin Younes. Klaassen could have added another goal, but he missed a penalty in the second half.

The situation at the top of the table remained unchanged for the sixth round in a row, with Feyenoord, Ajax and PSV all bagging their sixth consecutive win of 2017.

Feyenoord now lead table with 60 points from 23 matches, followed by Ajax (55) and PSV (52).

Among other matches on Sunday evening, AZ Alkmaar drew 1-1 at Willem, Sparta Rotterdam and FC Groningen drew 2-2 while FC Twente defeated SC Heerenveen 1-0.
