Mangaluru, Feb 19: The city crime branch (CCB) police on Sunday February 19 arrested six notorious criminals for attempt to murder a person who recently was released from jail and plot to commit a theft.
Addressing a press meet here on Sunday February 19, DCP Shantharaju said that the arrested are Suratkal residents Safwan Hussain (33), Mohammed Faisal Ibrahim Sheik (33) and Shamshuddin (27), Yemmekere resident Abdul Naseer alias Don Naseer (34), and Ullal residents Umar Farooq alias Mana Farooq (25) and Mohammed Ansar (30).
Based on credible information, the police waylaid them at Tannirbavi beach road while they were moving in a Swift car and an auto rickshaw with the intention of committing a murder and strike at a wealthy person's house.
The police recovered two pistols, seven live bullets, two knives and three mobile phones from the accused. Their Swift car and the auto rickshaw were also seized.
Among the accused, Safwan Hussain already faces charges in 23 cases of murder, attempt-to-murder, abduction, theft, assault on cops and so on. Goonda Act was also invoked against him. He was jailed, but came out on bail about two months ago.
Mohammed Faisal is involved in 8 cases, of murder attempt, theft, fights in jail and so on. He too was arrested but was recently given bail.
Abdul Naseer is involved in 9 cases, including attempt-to-murder, theft, communal clashes, and others.
Umar Farooq has three cases registered against him, including murder attempt, theft and assault, while Mohammed Ansar has no other case against him.
The arrested persons and the seized items have been handed over to Panambur police for further investigation, the DCP said.
To a question on the murder of HJV activist on February 19 at Maroli, the DCP said that the investigation is in the primary stage. "Cases of assault have also been registered in Barke and Kavoor police stations. The victim Pratap was returning from a birthday party when the incident took place. The post-mortem report is awaited," he said.
