Mangaluru girl Mitali Pinto shines at Goa Olympic triathlon

Media Release

Mangaluru, Feb 18: Mitali Pinto, daughter of Dr Errol and Ratna Pinto from Mangaluru ranked 7th among 32 female participants in the 'individual Olympic event' at the fourth edition of the Goa triathlon held on Sunday, February 12 at Bambolim, Goa. She completed the solo triathlon in 3 hours 23 minutes.

It was the first triathlon for Mitali, who was also one of the youngest participants.

The adrenalin pumping competition was a test of an athlete’s endurance and fitness. A triathlon requires participants to swim, cycle and run. The Olympic solo required the athlete to swim in the open sea for 1.5 km, cycle for 40 km and run for 10 km. There was also a super sprint organised for the beginners, who covered one-fourth the distance of the Olympic participants.

The triathlon attracts athletes from different parts of the world. This year there were 490 participants from across the world including USA, Japan, Canada, Italy, France, Switzerland, Chile and Australia. Participants from India came in large numbers from many states, including the Indian army.

The event was organised by Enduro Sports Goa. The team of Enduro Sports consists of Joseph Rodrigues a professional karate instructor and cyclist, Elias Patel, a swimming coach and a radio jockey, Ronald Fernandes, an IT professional and Dr Michelle Gouveia a radiologist. The proceeds from the triathlon were donated to COOJ, a mental health foundation in Goa.
