Kundapur, Feb 17: Various issues like the supply of furniture to schools, issuing of transfer certificates and bad road conditions were raised at the general meeting of Kunadapur taluk panchayat on Friday, February 17.

Though it was the 6th general assembly, the panchayat raj act book was still not issued to the members, said Pushparaj Shetty, Karun Poojary and Jyoti Puthran. They demanded the book to be issued by the next meeting.

Speaking on the grant money, one of the members, Umesh Shetty said that the both the work and the grants are pending. Who is responsible for the pending grants, he questioned.

In the case of supply of furniture to schools by private enterprises, Karun Poojary questioned why was the contract given to private furniture suppliers without considering the members' suggestions. Vasudeva Shetty, Udaya Shetty and Jagadish Shetty supported Karun Poojary which led to commotion during the meeting. The authorities should discharge their duties in a proper way, or else give the charge to some one else. The members even threatened a walk out as the education officers were unable to give the details of the furniture suppliers.

One of the members, Raju Devadiga said that a furniture supplier from Hebri has been supplying the furniture from many years. We have no idea who instructs the supplier. This matter should be enquired, he said.

Pushparaj Shetty said that assistant posted at the anganwadi should be a local instead of some one from far away. Most of the vacancies are empty at the office of the district officer of the CDP, he said.

When Surendra Kharvi, Jagadish Shetty and Umesh Shetty raised the issue of KSRTC buses for the taluk, MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary asked the members to discuss the issue with Byndoor MLA Gopal Pooajry who is the chairman of KSRTC. The MLC advised the members to fix an appointment with Gopal Poojary which could solve the problem.

Extensive discussion took place about fake transfer certificates. Karun Poojary said that block education officers are not even bothered to look into the matter. It is 45 days since the issue came to light, but even a complaint has not been filed at the police station, he said.

MLC Kota Srinivasa Poojary echoed the member's view and said that the fake TC issue is a serious one and has to be enquired.

The issue of absence of officers at the taluk panchayat meeting was raised by Kota Srinivas Poojary. The district-level officer has the right to summon the taluk panchayat meeting. The officers who have to be present at the meeting can be informed 15 days in advance, he said.

Dastagir Saheb raised the issue of land being scrutinised at Shiroor gram panchayat. Why is the inspection in progress even after the approval of land, he questioned. The tashildhar replied and said that though the land was approved 6 to 7 years ago, they are trying to bring the attention of the beneficiaries. The verification of sanctioned beneficiaries is taking place now, he said.

Taluk panchayat president Jayashree Mogaveer presided the meeting. MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary, vice-president Praveen Kumar Shetty, social justice committee chairman Mahendra Shetty and others were present.
