Karkala: Locals link recovery of skull, bones to Bhaskar Shetty case

Daijiworld Media Network - Karkala (SP)

Karkala, Feb 16: A human skull and some bones were found from a pond located at Mujalottu near Kedinje, Belman in the taluk on Wednesday February 15. Immediately after this recovery, rumour mills started churning out stories linking this recovery to the murder of NRI businessman from Udupi, Bhaskar Shetty.

The news about finding the skeletal remains spread fast and villagers gathered around the pond in no time. It is said that the people began linking this incident to Bhaskar Shetty's death because of the fact that self -styled astrologer, Niranjan Bhat from Nandalike, who happens to be a prime accused in the murder case, used to function as the priest of the temple located by the side of this pond. He also used to visit this pond often. The people therefore had reasons to link this incident to Bhaskar's alleged murder.

Police personnel from the town police station here went to the spot upon learning about the incident, and took into possession the human skull, some bones, some other remnants and clothes found there. A team from forensic science laboratory at Mangaluru visited the spot after the police summoned them. The team took away the bones for testing.

It is also being said that a person from Belady village near here has been missing since October, 2016, and a missing case was filed in the police station. People claim that he was wearing white clothes at the time he went missing. The clothes found from the pond where white in colour. It is not known whether this man is alive now or not. Some light is expected to be thrown on the issue once the forensic science laboratory comes out with its finding.
