Doha, Jan 24: Karnataka Sangha Qatar (KSQ), a prominent community group in Qatar aegis to ICC, celebrated one of the major festivals of north Karnataka called ‘Harvest Festival’ or suggi Habba as a traditional gesture at the Skill Development Centre, here on Friday morning 20 at 10.30 am.

The programme began with a 'Harvest' song by the children Ahana Rao, Ishita Somayaji, Smriti Bhat, Paavani Tantri and Pratheek Aswin Kumar composed the background music.

KSQ president, H K Madhu addressed the gathering and highlighted the traditional fervor of the harvest festival in Karnataka.

Entertainment in the form of folk songs provided by Deepa and Poornima Ravi kept the audience delighted. Kannada folk songs by Prem and Kantha Kumar were next on the agenda. The stage then opened out to Halli Katte, a debate on the topic ‘Who will do more useless expenditure in a family, men or women?’. It was a replica of the famous Kannada tele-show in Udaya Vahini. Mentor V S Mannagi conducted the halli Katte programme brilliantly and entertained the audience thoroughly. Dr Rohini, Dr Thimmegowda, Padma sasanur, Susheela Sunil, Prabhakar, Anuradha Sudesh, Umesh S, Deepak Shetty participated wholeheartedly in the ‘Halli Katte’. The highlights of the debate met with a roar of applause from the audience.

The programme continued with prize distribution for the children for best traditional gesture wear. The programme concluded with a traditional meal on banana leaf. Local talented singers Arun Kumar, Venkat Rao and Kiran entertained the audience with melodious Kannada songs during mealtime.
