Buying support lifts Indian equities


Mumbai, Jan 24 (IANS): Indian equities markets traded on a higher note during the early morning session on Tuesday, as healthy buying was witnessed in banking, automobile and consumer durables stocks.

The wider 51-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) rose 42.40 points or 0.51 per cent, to 8,433.90 points.

The barometer 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the BSE, which opened at 27,170.88 points, traded at 27,242.85 points (10.10 a.m.) -- up 125.51 points or 0.46 per cent from the previous close at 27,117.34 points.

The Sensex touched a high of 27,244.30 points and a low of 27,140.85 points during the intra-day trade so far.
