Mangaluru, Jan 23: World renowned professor Dr Sabaratnam Arul Kumaran, professor of OBG from St George's University, London was the guest speaker at CME Evolve (inspired learning, beyond excellence) at Father Muller Medical College held on January 22.

CME was organized by the department of OBG, FMMCH headed by Dr Prema D’Cunha, with Dr Joylene D'Almeida as the organizing secretary. Dr Arulkumaran is the past president of the Royal College of obstetricians and gynecologists and the International Federation of Gynecologists. Of the many accolades to his credit, the one that the professor is most proud of is being honored as knight bachelor at the Queens birthday honors list in June 2009 for his service to medicine.

He is a legend who is the primary author of many academic texts that are used for post graduate teaching like 'The management of labor'.

The session began at 5 pm and included lectures by the great professor on CTG, obstetric sepsis and quality indicators. There was also a 'meet the expert session' where obstetric post graduates interacted with the professor.

A man of great stature, professor Arulkumaran exuded only grace and humility. He advised the medical postgraduates on the three keys to success namely love for your parents, love for teachers and doing a good deed a day.

The obstetric and gynecology departments of all the medical colleges in Mangaluru, were deeply inspired by his stimulating session of post graduate teaching and an active audience interaction was seen.

The session was deeply appreciated by all, including doctors and postgraduates from Manipal and was followed by a dinner banquet.
