Al Ain: EIFF hold annual sports meet, Bur Dubai Kings retain championship

Al Ain, Jan 23: Emirates India Fraternity Forum (EIFF), Karnataka chapter organized a fun-filled annual sports day at the Al Ain Sports Ground on January 20. Faraz Udupi welcomed the guests and participants. Saddik Krishnapura, executive council member of Emirates India Fraternity Forum (EIFF), inaugurated the event at 8.00 am.

In his inaugural address he said, "Good health is the best blessing from the Almighty. We must desire to maintain our health always in a praiseworthy condition. Sport is one of the major tools that establishes unity." The oath was taken to keep up the dignity of the sports event.

Nassir Mohammad Kawalukatte, director of the event, read out the rules and regulations and wished all the participants the best.

Registration began in the early morning and the participants were divided into 4 teams namely, Abu Dhabi United, Bur Dubai Kings, Dubai Deira Tigers and Sharjah Warriors in different colored uniforms in the fully crowded stadium of EIFF members and spectators.

EIFF organized the mega sports event in a grand manner where people of all age groups from toddlers to senior citizens participated in various games like kabbadi, volleyball, football, tug of war, 100 meters, 200 meters race, 4x100 relay and serious track and field events and many more.

Separate competitions were organized for women and children. The various events were conducted for both boys and girls under different age groups. More than 450 people took part in the fun-filled sports event. In all, there were 35 events in various categories.

Winning teams in following games:
1. Volleyball: Winner- Bur Dubai Kings
Second position: Deira Dubai Tigers
2. Football: Winner, Sharjah Warriors
Second position: Bur Dubai Kings
3. Kabaddi: Winner, Bur Dubai Kings
Second position: Sharjah Warriors
4. Tug of War: Winner, Deira Dubai Tigers
Second Position: Abu Dhabi United

Shot put: First place: IrshadKapu, Sharjah
Second place: Ashraf Bailor, Deira Dubai
Third place: Irfan Melkar, Bur Dubai.
Long Jump: First place: Nawaz, Bur Dubai
Second place: Irfan Bur Dubai
Third Mukthar, Deira Dubai
100 meter: First place: Nawaz, Bur Dubai
Second place: Irfan, Bur Dubai
Third place: Abid Puttur, Abu Dhabi
200 meter: 1st place: Ashraf Kukkaje, Bur Dubai
Second place: Fazal, Abu Dhabi
Third place: Sarfaraz Bajpe, Deira Dubai
4x100 meter relay: First place: Bur Dubai Kings
Second position: Deira Dubai Tigers.

Players showed unquestionable commitment and discipline and the impressive performances in all the games throughout the day were worth the watch. The marathon rally held for all the participants lead by four group leaders was a spectacular sight. Bur Dubai Kings team emerged as champions for the fourth time in a row.

The chief guests at the closing ceremony were Nasir Kankanady, Rasheed Ullala, Naseer Nandawara, Nassir Kawalukatte and Sadiq Krishnapura.

Sadiq Krishnapura, in his closing notes Congratulated the winners as well as all the participants for their disciplined show and for their spirit of participation. He quoted, “Age is no barrier. It is a limitation put on the mind.”

Nassir Kawalukatte, director of the event, said whether a medal has been won or not, everyone is a winner. "In the long run, your active and continued participation in sports and athletics would pay you rich dividends in terms of fitness, well-being and happiness. Therefore, winning or losing in sports or athletics is not at all important, but the happiness generated through participation in sports or athletics is a highly cherished trophy." He sincerely congratulated and thanked the UAE rulers and Al Ain disabled club Management for providing the stadium and the facilities.

Ahmed Hussain, Hameed Sathikal, Javed Surathkal, Farooq Hydarabad, Ashpaque Mysore, Zakir Honnala, Majeed Aladka and Rashid Nala distributed the prizes to the winners of the various events. The winners were awarded medals and trophies. All the children were awarded attractive prizes.

EIFF executive team members put in all their efforts into making this event a grand success. The volunteers' contributions were also one of the major highlights of the day.

Nasir, FarazUdupi and Azar Nelyadi entertained the participants by their announcements in different languages throughout the day.

Ibad Honnala Team captured the beautiful moments of the entire event. The programme concluded at 8 pm with the vote of thanks by Azar Nelyadi.
