Karkala, Jan 19: A complaint regarding copyright infringement and piracy was registered at Karkala town police station on Wednesday, January 18.
Mukhesh Chandra Bhat (38), the complainant, hailing from Kulai Hosabettu, who is serving as an investigation officer in Super Cassettes Industries Private Limited (SCIPL) received information that pirated audio and video recordings of certain movies of which SCIPL holds copyrights are being sold in Karkala by Sun Communication and Sai Ram Mobile shop for very low rates without permission.
To confirm the information, Bhat sent a person named Nandakumar on January 18 to Sun Communication in the guise of a customer with a 4 GB memory card and asked him to get the audio recordings of 'Hero' and 'Bhaagi' which are under the authority of SCIPL. Similarly, Bhat sent another person named Jayaprakash, also on January 18 with a 4 GB memory card to Sai Ram Mobile. Bhat got pirated recordings on both the memory cards.
Bhat later complained about the act of piracy to Karkala town police station and got the complaint registered.
