Chitradurga, Jan 19: In an incident which occurred at Veeradimmanahalli of Challakere taluk in the district on Wednesday January 18, a woman set her husband on fire for questioning her infidelity. The incident comes as an anti-climax amid reports of husbands attacking and torching their wives.

Sharadamma, the wife in question, poured kerosene on her husband, K T Venkatesh Reddy from Laxmipura village, after he questioned her about her illicit relationship. Reddy, who came out crawling with great difficulty, was rescued by some local people who admitted him into the district hospital here. He has been fighting for life.

Venkatesh Reddy from Laxmipura had married Sharadamma from Veeradimmanahalli seven years back, after falling in love with her. The couple has two children. After the husband-wife duo fought with each other about three month back, Sharadamma had gone back to her parental house where she started living. She worked at a private hotel there. Venkatesh, during his visit to the village of his wife, came to know from others that his wife was having an illicit relationship with a local man. He approached his wife with this information and questioned her. Sharadamma consoled him, promised not to repeat this mistake again and succeeded in calming him down.

After Reddy went to bed after dinner, Sharadamma suddenly poured kerosene on him and ignited fire. Reddy who was suffering from acute pain, could not walk. He somehow crawled out, after which the neighbours took him to the district hospital after initially providing treatment at the local government hospital. In a complaint given to the polcie, Venkatesh Reddy has accused his wife of trying to murder him.

Policemen are investigating.
