Madikeri: Tiger caught in snare rescued by forest officials

Madikeri, Jan 18: A tiger that got caught in a snare in a forest on the banks of Laxman Teertha river at Bekkesodluru here was rescued successfully on Wednesday January 18.

The snare was laid on the banks of the river along the road to Mandatava temple where wild animals are frequently found causing fear among passersby.

The tiger was suffering and struggling to break free after its right paw got entrapped in the snare. The locals who saw the animal informed the forest department and the local organizations.

The forest department staff administered tranquilizers and rescued the animal.

The tiger was transported to a sanctuary in the presence of DFO M M Jaya, Ponnampete RFO P B Uttayya, Muthigodu RFO Kiran Kumar, veterinary doctor Nagaraju, Coorg Wildlife Society’s Munhangod Bose Madappa and Wildlife Trust of India representatives.

    Good Job! But why is it been taken to the sanctuary and not let out in the Wild Forest again ? Tigers are the National Animal of India and these animals too require freedom just like the humans.

    Have seen lot of animals in Zoo / Sanctuary that are malnutritioned which eventually die because of the carelessness of the Zoo keepers.

    Some people receive govt protection for vote bank sake they will hunt the tiger for its skin if left back into the wild, at least the tigers have a greater chance of producing offspring in the zoo and yes they may die later but yet it will still be more safer than the wild..
