Tumakuru: Stripping, thrashing of Dalit youth- Three arrested

Bengaluru, Jan 19: The police in Tumakuru on Wednesday January 18, arrested three persons on the charge of stripping and assaulting a Dalit youth.

Kaduprakash, Maruti and Ramesh are the arrested persons. All of them are residents of Gubbi.

A video circulated through WhatsApp showed a group of people stripping a youth and garlanding him with slippers at an unknown place in Gubbi near here. The video attracted instant criticism and condemnation from people.

The youth told the police that the group targeted him because he was in contact with a high school girl over phone for the past three months. The father of the girl is also one of the prime accused in the case.

Search is on for two more persons involved in the incident, Tumakuru superintendent of police Isha Pant said.

    What he was prompting on telephone? High school girl ! you need to concentrate on studies rather than extracuricular activities. Listen to your parents for any guidance.

    What is the problem here - him being a Dalit, or contacting a girl a high school student ? If she was beyond high school age, would they have let the man talk to her ?

    When a society does not tolerate intermingling of sections within it, no need to go beyond and brag Ghar-waapasi ! All your tolerance, peaceful existence is displayed there and then !
