Kundapur, Jan 16: People in large numbers gathered at Balekudru circle near Brahmavar and protested against the operations of Yashaswini Fish Mill Processing Unit by stopping vehicles on the road.

Balekudru Hitharakshana Vedike had organised the protest against the fish mill which performed a Pooja to start the business despite the ban from the court.

Kota police who arrived at the place of protest failed to convince the protestors from holding agitation.

Denis D’Souza, who spoke on behalf of the protestors, said “We do not even have water to drink now. This industry will deprive us of air too. There is a school here and also there are hundreds of houses. We are trying to stop this industry from operations in the interest of the public by running from post to pillars. We have managed to get order from the taluk court which stopped the company from operations. High Court (HC) has stayed this order. But HC order allows only shifting of the unit, not the operations from the same premises.”

Entrepreneur Keshav Kundar who came to the place instructed the police sub-inspector to let the vehicles found towards the fish mill unit within half an hour. This irritated the protestors and asked Kunder who was he to instruct the police officer. An argument took place between the police and protestors on this issue.

Brahmavar police circle inspector Srikanth, who visited the place after the confrontations, listened to the complaints of protestors. Then he went to the fish mill unit to check the records and court order. He told Keshav Kundar that the order only slows shifting of the fish mill and not the operations from the same place. He also said that if court order is not followed in true spirit, he would take necessary action as per law. He promised to compile a report on the issue.
