Kasargod, Jan 16: In the light of recent incident in which Maoist (naxal) leaders, Kuppu Devaraj and Ajit were shot at and killed by the police in Kurulayi forest area at Nilambur, the government has received intelligence outputs saying that 16 police stations are facing threat of retaliatory attack from naxals. Therefore, high alert has been sounded in the limits of these 16 police stations.

There is perception of naxal threat to police stations located in Kasargod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Malappuram Palghat and Thrissur districts of Kerala, the report has mentioned. As the report mentions the likelihood of police aid posts and police cooperative centres getting targetted by the naxals, the home department is considering the option of seeking help from central forces.

In this district, Adur, Chittarikal and Vellarikund are the three stations which face threat from naxals. In addition to police stations like Vellamunda, Tirunelli, Valikadavu, etc located in other districts, it is said that naxals are planning to attack police aid posts set up at the borders of forests in Wayanad district and abduct the policemen. Badiadka, Rajapuram, Bedaga and Cheemeni were the other police stations located at the district border which face naxal threat as per an earlier intelligence report.
