Sushma Swaraj asks Amazon to apologise for insulting national flag

NEW DELHI, Jan 11 (ET) : External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj today asked Amazon to tender an unconditional apology for insulting the Indian flag, warning that the government will not grant visa to any Amazon official in case the demand is not met.

Doormats featuring the Indian flag were made available on Amazon Canada site by two vendors Mayers Flag Doormats and XLYL. An image of the products was tweeted to the Minister, after which she asked the Indian High Commission in Canada to raise the issue with Amazon.

"Amazon must tender unconditional apology. They must withdraw all products insulting our national flag immediately," said the minister who is undergoing treatment at AIIMS.

"If this is not done forthwith, we will not grant Indian Visa to any Amazon official. We will also rescind the Visas issued earlier," she added.

Sushma also asked the Indian High Commission in Canada to take up the matter with Amazon. "Indian High Commission in Canada: This is unacceptable. Please take this up with Amazon at the highest level," she tweeted.

Did BJP and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj apologised for Narendra Modi insulting the national flag by wearing it around his neck and using it to wipe his sweat during yoga day?

Why Sushma Swaraj didn't object when Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sparked a controversy by autographing an Indian flag to be gifted to US President Barack Obama by celebrity chef Vikas Khanna,?
Let’s not forget that Narendra Modi is the prime minister of India. I’m sure he is well aware of what is kosher as far as the Flag Code Of India goes. Even if he isn’t, he has enough well-informed people around him to tell him. In Part II, Section 3, Explanation 4- point (f) of the undoubtedly outdated The Indian Flag Code, 2002, it clearly stated that putting any kind of inscription upon the Indian National Flag is considered disrespectful to the flag. Part II,o Section I, 2.1 subset (iv) specifies that lettering of any kind shall not be put upon the Indian National Flag.

Amazon has withdrawn the ad and tender and apology. Why PM Modi is not tender unconditional apology for disrespecting national flag and violating flag code?

Americans have very little respect for Thier own flag so to expect any common sense from them is naive. They make lingerie of the flag and wear it with impunity. In Saudi Arabia an expatriate was caught with stolen money wrapped in old Newspaper with the Kings photo on it in his underpants. He nearly was uted for this. Just because they are superpowers does not give them rights to do whatever they please. If a small nation like the Philippines can stand-up to them why not India.
    Hats off Sushmaji!!!!
