Mangaluru: Uniform Civil Code will boost national unity: Advocate Farah Faiz

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (RJP)

Mangaluru, Dec 18: "By implementing Uniform Civil Code, all the religions can enjoy the same privileges and thereby an enhanced national unity can be achieved," opined Farah Faiz, the advocate who moved the Supreme Court seeking an end to the practice of triple Talaq.

Farah Faiz, who is also the national honorary president of the Rashtrawadi Muslim Mahila Sangh, was speaking at a seminar on 'Uniform Civil Code for National Unity' at Sangha Niketana here on Saturday, December 17. The event was organized by the city unit of Citizens' Council.

"Uniform Civil Code conforms to Quranic teachings. There should not be any doubt about it. The Indian Constitution, as per article 44, allows and justifies uniform law in the whole nation which has many states. Muslim religious rights and privileges are safeguarded by articles 25 and 26 of the Indian Constitution," Faiz added.

"Polygamy was introduced with the noble intention of allowing widows to get remarried. But the people took it as a license to marry four times. Later triple talaq was incorporated," Faiz said.

"Personal laws came into existence during the rule of British. Many a social reformer demanded that these laws should be amended. And accordingly many changes were made in Hindu personal law subsequently. Though property rights were denied to the Hindu woman earlier, with revolutionary changes later, these rights were accorded to her. But no such amendments were made in the Shariat law. I am confident that, if Uniform Civil Code is enforced, women can really benefit from it," Faiz concluded.

Chakravarthy Sulibele, mentor of Yuva Brigade, said, "We should come out of the clutches of fundamentalists and admit that we are all one and equal. Only Uniform Civil Code can introduce equality and root out fundamentalism from the society. This may affect all communities including Muslims to a small extent for a greater good. But we all need to accept the changes for the better future of all the people.

"Women and men are living with equal rights in Hindu and Christian societies. Muslim women should also be treated equally with men. If Hindus had objected to Hindu code bill, there would have been problems. But they have accepted it overwhelmingly. Muslims should also support Uniform Civil Code, so that women can stand at par with men in the future," Sulibele added.

Sunil Achar and Vikram Nayak from Citizens' Council welcomed and compered, respectively.

one question to my non-Muslim friends who are showing so much interest in triple talaq. do you even know what triple talaq is? what do you guys think saying three times talaq talaq talaq will end the relationship???

i even know that majority of the Muslims also do not have any idea what actually triple talaq is and the procedure of getting talaq in a Islamic way.

Few stupid people have started this as a political move and rest as we all know you have millions of people to follow and comments without any knowledge.

please guys if you want to oppose something at least learn about it before you start typing some non sense comments.

I hope nobody starts that Muslim women cannot get married so easily just by saying AL-HAMDULILLA or else people are ready to protest against that as well :D

guys dont worry we are very much concerned and caring about our women than you, i do not blame any non Muslim friend for these kind of issue. problem is with we Muslim, we are not practicing Islam in the way it should be.

Anyways guys u keep protesting don't stop, triple talaq is not a good way.

Ladies should file a divorce in court, lawyers should mix masala and make it a good recipe and present in front of the judge and than after so much of long wait may be 5-6 years there will be a judgement god only knows in whose favor, as per sharia at least if she will get divorce within a year she has time to any other life partner and live a happy life.

People who are too much into religion and get obsessed with rules and regulations in their religion because of their rigid views, fail to analyze the context of those rules and original intent of these rules.

They get angry with others who are progressive for a change. This is fanaticism - which is not restricted to any religion as there are fanatics in every religion.

I visited my native place this week and discussed this issue with my non muslim and muslim friends, 90% of them thinks unifrom civil code effetcs muslims and its issue of muslims. whereas Hindus's are enjoying hindu special marriage act getting tax benefits, sikhs enjoying the personal law which is recently got further amendments and sikh civil right groups are very happyu about the recnebt amendments where they got more rights, same as chritians where chritian marriagne and divorce acts, for tranvacore (cochin) catholics special acts, parsi'special marraige acts and most importantly 20% indian population which comes under other religion category mostly tribals are the most affected people who are opposing implementation of unifrom civilcode. before we accept the governments unifrom civil code where is the draft whereas we have unifrom law for marriage and divorce divorce if someone wants to seek justice beyond these personal law. if we impliment the unfirm civil code and start with court marriage and divorce, currently there are more than 12 thousand pending cases regarding marriage/ divorce and will take another 12 years based on current legal system then imagine what will be the case everybody starts with court marriage and divorce, Our religious identity where we go masjid/church/temple atleast for marriage will loose its importance along with mulla, father or pandith. if divorce becomes complicated and people cannot seperate easily, live in relations will increase bcz of complications in getting divorce through the courts hence lets continue with present system and improving any lacks under the current personal laws rather looking for unfirm civil code, diversity of culture/religion cast is beauty of Inida, lets preserve it.

Whoever against the Shariya rules, they should know what Islam is, what Quran says (with meaning) and what is Authentic Hadith (Teaching of Prophet PBUH) then comment. Not to project Islam after looking an Muslim. There are lot of people they are having muslim name only and they are not practicing Islam. There are lot of people with Muslim name they are into Alcohol business, Interest business, killing innocent in the name of Jihad, sex business etc.. Enemies of Islam pickup those black sheeps for projecting Islam.
